Working long days, touring together, rehearsing together — it’s no wonder that so many of the professional dancers find love on Dancing With The Stars. Sasha Farber and Emma Slater are engaged, and there's another quick-footed couple that recently formed. But, are DWTS duo Maksim Chmerkovskiy and Peta Murgatroyd married? They did just have a baby together.
Maks and Peta were the original on-again-off-again couple of Dancing With The Stars. According to a People timeline, the couple met in 2009 while they were in the Broadway production of Burn The Floor, and it wasn’t exactly love at first sight. But the two got to know each other, and eventually, a friendship grew into a relationship. Well, first, Maks and Peta had to split up with their significant others — Maks was engaged to fellow dancer Karina Smirnoff, and Peta was with Dancing With The Stars costar Damian Whitewood. But what are a few breakups when you know that you’re meant to be together? Speaking of breakups, Maks and Peta actually split after less than a year of dating. Bummer. Maks quickly realized the error of his ways, however, and by October 2014, these two were back in action and ready to spend the rest of their lives together. Maks then proposed in December 2015, according to People.
Crazy love story aside, Maks and Peta are not married yet. They welcomed their son, Shai Alexander Chmervoskiy, about a year after they got engaged, and these two haven’t tied the knot yet. They’ve been a little busy, I think, with, you know, being wholly responsible for a tiny baby human. That is sure to push any wedding planning back a little bit. Both Maks and Peta are competing on the newest season of Dancing With The Stars, so any planning they do has to come between choreographing, competing, and parenting.
Whenever they get around to the wedding, Maks and Peta seem to have big plans. Right after they got engaged, Maks told In Touch, “I want it to be a million dollar wedding! She wants a princess thing with the horse and carriage and I want to give that to her.” Peta added, “I love doing this type of thing. It’s going to be massive, probably 500 people, somewhere in New York. Our families will fly over for it.”
The two also have plans for more babies — Maks told People that he wanted “a little girl first, then a little boy,” because “an older girl would be more responsible.” Well, Maks, that ship has sailed, but there’s no reason you can't have more kids to try out those dynamics.
Before they can plan that huge wedding and make a bigger family, Maks and Peta will be in direct competition for the Mirrorball trophy — Peta is paired with former Bachelor Nick Viall, and Maks will be dancing with former Glee star Heather Morris. Hopefully, these two can leave the drama on the dance floor and continue on planning a blissful future and that big wedding together.
