A New 'Game Of Thrones' Story Is Coming

Fans of George R.R. Martin have been waiting for a new A Song of Ice and Fire story for what feels like years — because it has, literally, been years. The last book in the series that inspired Game of Thrones came out in 2011, and since then, the publication date for Winds of Winter has become an ever-changing mystery. But before you give up all hope, I come bearing good news: there will be a new Game of Thrones story in 2017 — even if it's not the one you were expecting.

On October 10, an anthology will hit the shelves edited by Gardner Dozois, who has collaborated with George R.R. Martin many times in the past. The anthology, Book of Swords, will contain 15 short fantasy stories — including one from Martin himself set in the ASOIAF universe.

It might not be the sixth installment that we've been waiting for, but let's face it, we'll take anything we can get at this point. Martin has hinted on his blog that Winds of Winter might be out before the year is over, but he quickly followed that up with a sidenote: "But hey, I thought the same thing last year." Realistically, we just can't know when we'll get our hands on Winds of Winter, but even a glimpse of the beloved A Song of Ice and Fire universe is something to celebrate. Now we just have nine months to speculate what this new Westeros story might contain...
