Sometimes Hollywood can really surprise you, especially when it comes to celebrity romances. It's no secret that the entertainment world is known for its breakups. More often than not, celebrities eventually split with their significant others. Just when you're rooting for a couple (Diane Kruger and Joshua Jackson), they go and split up. It upends your whole world, you have to grieve the separation, and then hope that another one of your favorite couples won't go and break your heart. Well, there are some celebs who know how to make it work when it comes to their relationships. Plenty of celebrity couples have been together for a really long time. I know, shocking, right?
Actually, there are more celebs who have been with their significant others for more than a decade than you think. The following list doesn't just include those who are married, but couples who have been with their partner for quite some time now.
Now, let's just hope that none of these beloved couples go their separate ways, because it would truly be hard to handle. If you're still trying to come to terms with Demi Lovato and Wilmer Valderrama's breakup, then the following couples splitting would seriously do some damage on your heart.
Rita Wilson & Tom Hanks
Oh, Tom Hanks and Rita Wilson. They continue to steal the hearts of many with their love for one another. The two tied the knot in 1988. And 28 years later they still can't stop gushing about one another. As Hanks told BBC Radio’s Desert Island Discs (via Huffington Post) in May about first meeting Wilson, "I don’t think I’ll ever be lonely any more... that’s how I felt when I met my wife." Anyone else swooning?
Goldie Hawn & Kurt Russell
These two will forever be known for standing the test of time — and doing it without being married. Goldie Hawn and Kurt Russell first got together in 1983 and have been together ever since. For those who still wish they would get married 33 years later, Hawn explained in a June 2015 interview with Porter magazine (via Us Weekly) about how a longterm relationship isn't solidified by marriage. "A lasting relationship isn’t about marriage," she said. "It’s about compatibility and communication. And you both need to want it to work." Obviously, they both want it to work.
Sarah Michelle Gellar & Freddie Prinze Jr.
This celeb couple is proof that good can come from a horror teen movie. Specifically, I Know What You Did Last Summer. Even though they didn't play love interests in the 1997 flick, they still found their way to one another. They were friends before starting to date in 2000, but in 2002, Sarah Michelle Gellar and Freddie Prinze Jr. got married. As Prinze told the Huffington Post in June, "We were fortunate enough to be at the right times in our lives where we both wanted something serious and it worked," he said about their now 16-year relationship. "So we’re lucky, but we also work very hard at it. It’s not just dumb luck, it’s work.”
Jada Pinkett-Smith & Will Smith
Despite all of the rumors surrounding Will Smith and Jada Pinkett Smith's marriage, they've continued to prove nothing can or will tear them apart. For almost two decades, these two have stood by one another and proven that not all celebs face the Hollywood romance curse. Not even Pinkett Smith thought she end up this happy, but as she said during a May speech at VH1's Dear Mama event,
"I never thought about being married or having a family. I didn't know anything about that because I came from a single mom so I always though I'd be a single mom and have a career. Then I found this beautiful man, Will. I got married to him and I got my bonus son Trey and then I got Jaden and I got Willow and I was able to create, for myself, something I never had — which means family."
Beyoncé & Jay Z
Like many other celeb couples, Beyoncé and Jay Z are private about their personal lives. They rarely even talk about each other in public. Maybe that's why they've managed to make their relationship work for the past 15 years?Even when they aren't busy pulling off secret wedding ceremonies, revealing pregnancies at an awards show, or making headlines thanks to Bey's "Lemonade," they continue to be everyone's favorite couple.
Elton John & David Furnish
Before getting married in December 2014, David Furnish and Elton John were together for 21 years. They first met and got together in 1993. As John told Parade magazine in February 2010 about their fast love,
"I was attracted to David immediately. He had a real job, his own apartment, a car. He was independent. I didn’t need to take care of him. I thought, 'God, this is new territory for me — someone wants to be with me just because he likes me.' I knew he was the one, because he is not afraid of me. He always tells me exactly what he thinks."
And the rest is history.
Kyra Sedgwick & Kevin Bacon
After 28 years of marriage, Kyra Sedgwick and Kevin Bacon are still head over heels in love with one another. In a 2008 interview with Redbook, Sedgwick said about their relationship, "But now he is the person I count on to live and walk through life with. It's a dependency that is there and large and real and profound." Yes, Bacon feels the same way. In 2015, he gave quite the Instagram tribute to his wife for their anniversary. Alongside a photo of Sedgwick, he wrote, "Celebrating 9,855 days of marriage to @kyrasedgwick." Now that really puts the length of their relationship into perspective.
Sarah Jessica Parker & Matthew Broderick
Unlike her Sex and the City character, Sarah Jessica Parker has been married for a really long time. She and Matthew Broderick tied the knot in 1997, which brings the length of their marriage to almost 20 years. "I love Matthew Broderick," Parker shared in an August 2013 Harper's Bazaar interview. "Call me crazy, but I love him. We're very devoted to our family and our lives. I love our life. I love that he's the father of my children, and it's because of him that there's this whole other world that I love."
Felicity Huffman & William H. Macy
If this photo doesn't show how in love these two talents are, then maybe hearing that Felicity Huffman and William H. Macy have been married for almost 20 years will. They really are one of the cutest celebrity couples. Even after all these years, they swoon over each other. For example, while appearing on The Ellen DeGeneres Show in April 2015, Huffman said about Macy, "I totally adore him. I just lucked out with that guy. He walks in a room and I go 'ah!'" How adorable is that?
Victoria & David Beckham
The soccer star and former Spice Girls member have been married for over 17 years. As huge celebrities in both England and the United States, David and Victoria Beckham know how to make their relationship stick. While chatting with Us Weekly in September 2015, David discussed his marriage. "We’ve been together for 18 years, we’ve been married for 16 years," he said. "So you trust each other’s judgment. I think that has worked for us." Anyone taking notes? This just may be the key to a happy and long relationship.
Anna Kournikova & Enrique Iglesias
Anyone else forget that these two were even a couple? Anna Kournikova and Enrique Iglesias first started dating in 2001. They are still going strong 15 years later. Like many other celeb couples, the tennis star and singer stay out of the public eye and rarely discuss their relationship. But, Kournikova isn't shy when it comes to sharing Instagrams of herself dancing to her boyfriend's music. The cuteness is real.
Faith Hill & Tim McGraw
If you're still grieving over the split between Miranda Lambert and Blake Shelton, just remember this other country couple is still very much together. Two decades after saying, "I do," Faith Hill and Tim McGraw continue to make their shippers swoon. "We just think about how much we love our family, how much we love our life together, growing old together, once your kids grow up," McGraw told E! News in October 2015 about their marriage. "We feel pretty happy in the life that we've built together and the community we live in and the way we live our lives." Basically, their life is a country song.
Angela Bassett & Courtney B. Vance
Almost two decades after walking down the aisle, these two huge talents (especially on FX) remain tight and in love as ever. In 1997, Angela Bassett and Courtney B. Vance got married. Since that day, not much has changed, including their respect for each other. After being asked about the key to a long relationship by Closer Weekly in January 2015, Bassett answered, "Respect and negotiation! I want what I want, he wants what he wants and sometimes they’re not the same, but we’ve learned how to negotiate to make each other happy and fulfill our dreams and desires."
Christine Taylor & Ben Stiller
Anyone else forget sometimes that these two are together, let alone have been married for the past 16 years? It was a quick romance and marriage for Ben Stiller and Christine Taylor, but clearly it worked in their favor. "[Christine and my] relationship was a gradual thing that happened over a quick period of time, maybe seven or eight months," the comedian told Parade in December 2013. "We just started hanging out with each other and it developed into, 'Wow, this feels great. I really like this person. I think I love this person. I really do — I love this person.' It hit me out of the blue."
Denzel & Pauletta Washington
Leave it to Denzel Washington to have one of the most successful marriages in Hollywood. In 1983, Denzel and Pauletta got married, which adds up to 33 years of marriage. That is a very long time. In a July 2013 interview with Ebony magazine (via Huffington Post), the couple dished that they've experienced ups and downs together, but they aren't giving up on each other. Washington said, "We live in a time — and it’s not for me to judge anyone — when people give up too easy." I mean, the Flight actor even asked Pauletta to marry him three times before she said yes, so you know he is persistent.
Meryl Streep & Don Gummer
Does it surprise anyone that Meryl Streep takes home the award in this list for the longest marriage in Hollywood? She and husband, Don Gummer, made things official in 1978. Yes, that's 38 years of marriage, which is extremely impressive for a celebrity. After winning a Best Actress Oscar in 2012, Streep said during her speech, "First I'm going to thank Don, because when you thank your husband at the end of the speech they play him out with the music. And I want him to know that everything I value most in our lives you've given me." Leave it to her to make everyone swoon at the Academy Awards.
Hugh Jackman & Deborra-Lee Furness
These two have been married for 20 years and Hugh Jackman still gets butterflies for Deborra-Lee Furness. "It gets better and better, I can honestly say that," he told Ellen DeGeneres during a February appearance on The Ellen DeGeneres Show. "She's the greatest thing that ever happened to me." She's been by his side throughout most of his career and it doesn't seem like she's going anywhere anytime soon.
Steve & Nancy Carell
Not only do these two make one talented couple, but Steve and Nancy Carell also make a successful one when it comes to a long-lasting relationship in Hollywood. They married in 1995 (that's 21 years of marriage) and have been happy ever since. In what has to be the best compliment anyone can give, Steve told Entertainment Tonight in January about Nancy, "She makes me laugh more than anybody." Stop it Steve, your cuteness is too much to handle.
Kelly Preston & John Travolta
John Travolta and Kelly Preston haven't had an easy time during their marriage thanks to the loss of their son Jett at just 16 years old, but they've never let that or anything else tear them apart. In June 2013, Preston shared the several keys to their successful marriage with Life & Style. "Communication is huge! Keep checking in and keep growing and changing," she dished. "Keep it romantic. Keep doing things just the two of you. Family also gives you such a great purpose. The kids make it fun. Playing and laughing is also big. Laughter helps solve a lot of things!"
Oprah Winfrey & Stedman Graham
Finally, what better way to close out a slideshow all about love than with Oprah Winfrey and Stedman Graham? They've never married (they did get engaged in 1992), but that doesn't mean anything. The couple has stood the test time without walking down the aisle. They've been together for almost 30 wonderful years and that isn't changing. Clearly, Winfrey proved that in a February Instagram she shared of herself and Graham. Alongside it, she wrote, "Stepping out with my Valentine of almost 30 yrs!" These two really do make the best Valentines.
