Unique Grilled Cheese Recipes For National Grilled Cheese Day
Apr. 12 is National Grilled Cheese Day. I know what you're thinking: everyday should be grilled cheese day. And you're not wrong. Every day, I eat some combination of bread and cheese. I literally cannot remember the last time those two dreamy ingredients didn't come together in one of my meals.
So if you're anything like me, you're like, "why is this day any different from any other day?" and I totally hear you. Which is exactly why I've put together a list of unique grilled cheese recipes so that you can celebrate the national holiday by mixing up your sandwich game. Let this day inspire you to try out a new recipe, a new cheese, a new bread, or to add some new ingredients to your already delightful sandwich.
These recipes are going to make you so hungry you might find yourself zombie walking to the grocery store for ingredients, while mumbling something like "must... get... cheese." If that's the case and you come home with way too much, you might want to consider celebrating the holiday by having a grilled cheese party and inviting some of your friends over for a lunch for dinner kind of thing. Or you could eat it all by yourself, no judgment. Check out these cheesy recipes and get your celebration on.
Grilled Cheese Benedict
This recipe straight from Chef Eli Kirshtein (of Top Chef: Las Vegas) and Campbell's is a winner: Add a poached egg and a quarter can of Campbell's tomato soup to your grilled cheese and make it a full-on brunch treat. Garnish with basil, salt and pepper.
Grilled Cheese Pockets
Another recipe from Chef Eli Kirshtein (of Top Chef: Las Vegas) and Campbell's: Forget the bread, roll up your favorite cheese in a pastry puff, seal it with an egg wash, bake it for about 15 minutes on 375 degrees and use Campbell's tomato soup as an epic dipping sauce.
Grilled Cheese Bread Bowl With Tomato Soup
And a third from Chef Eli Kirshtein (of Top Chef: Las Vegas) and Campbell's (they're on a roll!): Get yourself a nice round loaf of sourdough bread. Carefully place slices or shreds of your favorite cheese on top of the bread, and then place in the oven at 350 degrees until the cheese starts to brown. Take out the loaf, let it cool, and then slice off the top and pull out the insides. Once it starts to resemble a bowl, fill it up with some Campbell's tomato soup and enjoy having one less dish to wash.
Caprese Grilled Cheese With Rose
For a unique take on grilled cheese, try this recipe from The Cheese Twins: Butter each side of bread before crisping on the skillet. Remove once slightly toasted and add mozzarella cheese, sun dried tomatoes, and basil pesto aioli. Press both sides firmly together before returning to skillet. Continue cooking until desired. Added bonus: The Cheese twins suggest serving with a cool glass of Meiomi Rosé.
