Let's face it. You don't love your favorite face wash just because it cleans your face well. Cosmetics are personal. That's why it takes us a long time to recover when the beauty products we cherish are discontinued — if we ever recover, that is.

Even if there are dozens of similar items on the market, nothing hurts quite as acutely as the loss of the one and only *insert makeup item here* that seems like it was made just for you. It feels like a betrayal. After all, your ideal blush or shade of lipstick becomes an extention of your very self.

OK, so maybe that's a little dramatic. It's just lipstick. But sometimes we love a specific body lotion or highlighter because using it conveys a message to the world about who we are. Even the perfect dupe of BECCA's Champagne Pop highlighter or Glossier Milky Jelly Cleanser (neither of which are discontinued, before you start frantically hitting up eBay) won't feel the same as the original.
