There's no better time for a beauty break than the cold, quiet depths of winter— for me, a less-packed calendar means more time moisturizing and multi-masking, less time heat styling and putting on a full face of makeup. Lately, my everyday beauty M.O. doesn't go far beyond a light foundation, mascara, and a brow pencil, but when I'm feeling ~extra~, a lip tint or stain gives a fresh face an extra pop of color.

Lip tints and stains are great for low-maintenance beauty looks. They're the set-it-and-forget-it product of the lip color world — they provide pigment without the color intensity of a full-on lipstick, and without the application attention, too. They're just about as easy as a lip balm, and they make a bright statement on fresh skin with little to no effort. Plus, while the terms 'tint' and 'stain' are often used pretty interchangeably, ones that veer more into stain territory have extra staying power. The best part? Many of them can also be used to give your cheeks some color for a one-two beauty punch.

The kind of lip tint or stain you use is totally up to personal preference. They come in several different forms — sticks, balms, tubes, you name it. Different products also deliver different color concentrations. Some are more subtle and translucent, while super-pigmented stains are a little bolder.
