This Pet Insurance Gives You Peace Of Mind & Supports The Charity Of Your Choice
It’s a win-win situation.
If you’re a pet parent, you may have experienced the panic of realizing your furbaby just chowed down on a potentially toxic houseplant or is scratching one area a little too much. Cut to the emergency trip to the vet that might knock your savings back (but will thankfully ensure your pet’s well-being). It’s moments like these where pet insurance, like that provided by Lemonade, can make a meaningful difference in your financial peace of mind while allowing you to care for that VIP (very important pet).
But pet insurance isn’t just for emergencies — Lemonade can also reimburse you for preventative care. Plus, unlike most pet insurers, at the end of the year, the company gives a portion of unclaimed premiums to charity.
The Basics
Lemonade pet insurance offers reimbursement for a variety of treatments, including:
- Diagnostics, such as bloodwork, urinalysis, and X-rays
- Procedures, including outpatient, surgery, and emergency care
- Medications, including injections and prescription meds
- Hospitalization, including overnight stays
- Preventative care, including wellness exams, vaccines, routine dental cleanings, and more
There are even plans tailored for puppies and kittens to give you money back on microchipping, spaying and neutering, and general care for your new furry friend.
How Does It Work?
Once you activate your insurance policy, there will be a waiting period before your pet is eligible for reimbursement on certain conditions: two days for accidents, 14 days for illnesses, and six months for cruciate ligament events — like when your energetic pup takes a turn way too hard when playing catch at the park and tears a ligament in their knee. If you opt for a preventative care package, benefits such as a wellness exam, vaccines, or heartworm tests can be accessed literally a day after purchase.
When your pet goes to the vet, you’ll pay the bill upfront and then you can file a claim in the Lemonade app right away. Your claim will be settled within days — sometimes even instantly — and then you’ll be reimbursed directly into your bank account, minus any deductibles or co-insurance payments.
Are Pre-Existing Conditions Covered?
In short, no — most pre-existing conditions are not covered. However, in some cases, Lemonade will cover curable pre-existing conditions if your pet hasn’t shown symptoms for at least one year (this policy does not apply in California).
Lemonade Giveback
One thing that sets Lemonade apart from other insurance companies is the Giveback program. When you sign up for a policy, you can select from over 60 nonprofit organizations you’d like to support. Every year, Lemonade gives unclaimed premiums to the nonprofits. Your pets (and your bank account) are covered in case of illnesses and emergencies, and you can support a cause you care about — it’s a win-win.
