It might sound dramatic, but a bad hair day can seriously ruin your day. In fact, I'd pay good money to never have a bad hair day again. And I know — it's just hair and it's not something that actually deserves being obsessed over. But I'd be lying if I said feeling great about my hair didn't give me an added little boost of confidence and a spring in my step. Conversely, when my hair isn't behaving the way I want, I can feel slightly deflated every time I catch a glimpse of myself in a mirror.

It's like the difference between slipping into an outfit that makes you feel amazing, versus an outfit that you feel totally blah about (or worse, that you actively dislike). And while it's definitely not life or death, it just feels nice to feel good about the way we're looking on any given day. With that being said, I've looked into many a ways to keep my hair looking as good as possible as consistently as possible. Because why waste time feeling annoyed about something when I don't have to?

If you're in the same, good-hair-day-loving boat, here are 11 tips to help you never have a bad hair day again:

1. Be Proactive Abut Damage

OK, this first tip from a StyleCaster compilation piece might not seem all that exciting, but taking care of your hair is seriously the first stop in avoiding bad hair days. When our hair is dry or over processed, it looses its natural shine and gets frizzy super easily. StyleCaster specifically recommended using a hair mask once a week and always using heat protection products when using heat-based styling tools.

2. Keep A Spray Bottle By Your Dresser

This is a personal tip that always helps me out in a pinch. When I wake up to hair that's completely lost its shape, I simply spritz it with a spray bottle full of water and blow dry it on low heat. It only takes a couple minutes and does wonders in reshaping how my hair falls.

3. A Good Quality Dry Shampoo

If oily hair is your problem, dry shampoo is your solution. However, experience has taught me that not all dry shampoos are created equal. Experiment with a few different brands and see which one works best for you. My personal favorite is Klorane Original Dry Shampoo. It gives my hair volume and shape while absorbing the grease.

4. Have Bang Control On Hand

If your bangs just aren't cooperating never be afraid to pin them back completely. I always travel with hair clips on hand for this exact reason, and I have an extensive headband collection for mornings when I just can't deal. Sometimes I get the most compliments on my hair when I'm really just doing bang control!

5. Master The Faux Mermaid Ponytail

When we're having a bad hair day it can be super tempting to just throw it up in a ponytail and be done with it. But the thing is, there are actually ways to elevate a basic ponytail that don't take much time or work and look amazing. Check out the above tutorial for an example of how to dress up the classic look.

6. And The Simple Side Twists

I seriously get so many compliments with this incredibly simple look. Which is ironic, since I usually only do it when I'm having a bad hair day. The thing that I love about it is it can look super sleek, but if my hair is frizzy or unwieldy I can use that to my advantage and go for a totally boho look.

7. Use Frizz To Your Advantage

A piece for InStyle, hairstylist Guido Palau noted that sometimes the best thing to do is use frizz to your advantage instead of spending hours trying to tame it. Palau recommended fluffing it out and wrapping sections around a curling iron for a totally '70s vibe.

8. Sleep On A Silk Or Satin Pillow Case

According to hair stylist Anthony Dickey in a piece for The Huffington Post style section, "Satin pillowcases help to prevent frizzing and roughing of the cuticle on any hair texture and can help to prolong styles, whether your hair is kinky, curly, wavy or straight." This is a super simple tip that makes a noticeable difference.

9. Keep Dryer Sheets On Hand

This tip from from Allure works wonders — especially in the winter when static-induced frizz is at its worst. Just grab a dryer sheet and rub it over your hair to instantly help smooth things down.

10. Get Regular Trims

According to Meri Kate O'Connor, senior colorist and educator at Eva Scrivo Salon in New York City, in a piece for Good Housekeeping, we should be getting our hair trimmed every six to eight weeks. This might sound kind of dull, but it all goes back to preventative maintenance.

11. Beat Hat Hair

A compilation piece for Real Simple recommended always parting your hair in the opposite direction of your usual part before putting on a hat. That way your hair won't look flat when you readjust the part once you take the hat off.

Feeling good about your hair almost every day doesn't need to be the impossible dream. Incorporate a few of the above techniques into your usual routine, and say goodbye to bad hair days once and for all!
