After The Later Daters, Suzanne Shared An Update
The Netflix show takes a pragmatic approach to looking for love.
Already missing The Golden Bachelorette? A new Netflix series — that’s executive produced by Michelle Obama — takes a different approach to older singles looking for love. And, yes, there’s already a potential success story to root for.
The Later Daters (which premiered on Nov. 29) follows six Atlanta-area participants working with dating coach Logan Ury to find a potential match. One of them is 63-year-old optometrist Suzanne Doty, who’s returned to the dating scene after losing her husband of 27 years.
“Suzanne found what many people in their lives never find, which is this one great love,” Logan said in Episode 1. “And so for Suzanne, it’s really going to be about understanding that maybe what she’s looking for now is more of companionship, or a travel partner.”
In other words, The Later Daters isn’t working toward a final rose ceremony or grand proposal in paradise. It’s mostly concerned with finding a partner who fits well into one’s day-to-day life. “This show is very different [from The Golden Bachelor/ette],” Suzanne recently told AARP. “There’s no competition. It's about six boomers who are struggling in the dating world.”
Throughout the show’s eight-episode debut season, Suzanne went on several blind dates but forged the strongest connection with a 59-year-old financial adviser named Avery. So... are they still together after The Later Daters? Here’s what to know.
A Romantic Rivalry?
Suzanne and Avery quickly developed a fun, flirty rapport during their first date. Even though she thought their support for rival football teams — she loves Georgia, he roots for Alabama — could be a dealbreaker, she realized that wasn’t an issue. Avery even accompanied her to a Georgia game!
Though Suzanne went on another blind date, she realized she couldn’t stop thinking about Avery and ultimately decided to pursue the divorced dad of three.
At the end of The Later Daters, Suzanne and Avery shared that they’d been seeing each other for two months. They seemed to be in a good place, acknowledging that while they’re open to marriage, it’s not something they feel the need to rush into.
“We’re just taking it one day at a time,” Avery said. “We’re just going to see where it goes. And I think that takes a lot of pressure off of both of us, and so far it’s been working.”
Suzanne Gave An Update
While Suzanne hasn’t revealed her current relationship status in post-filming interviews, she did tell AARP that she remains “very good friends” with the men she didn’t pursue on the show.
“I will be friends with these guys for life,” she confirmed.
