Love Island’s Gemma Owen Has A *Seriously* Competitive Side
“I will always go for what I want.”
Love Island 2022 is finally upon us, and with it arrives a brand new lineup of sizzling singletons on the hunt for true love. Fans can expect some big changes during the show’s eighth run, including a brand new Love Island villa and more sustainable fashion sponsors. Among this year’s cast is a “fun, flirty and fiery” business owner. Here’s everything to know about Love Island’s Gemma Owen, who is looking forward to a fun-filled summer of love.
What Is Gemma’s Job?
Based in Chester, the 19-year-old islander is an international dressage rider and the owner of her very own clothing brand, OG Beachwear.
What Is Gemma’s Instagram?
Prior to her Love Island appearance, Gemma already has an impressive 44,000 Instagram followers - a figure that will only increase over the course of the summer. Followers can expect to enjoy snapshots of Gemma horse riding, wining and dining with friends, and holidaying in Dubai and beyond.
What Else Is There To Know About Gemma?
In addition to finding love, Gemma just wants to “have a really fun” summer. “I was seeing someone and then that didn’t work out so I thought, ‘Why not?’ Owen told ITV ahead of her Love Island 2022 stint.
As for what viewers can expect, Gemma describes herself as “fun, flirty and fiery” with a seriously competitive side. “I’ve competed for Great Britain in dressage since I was 11-years-old. I’ve travelled ... I would say I’m very competitive,” she added.
When it comes to dating, Gemma believes she is “loyal” and would make “a good girlfriend,” revealing that she will “always go for what I want,” but isn’t willing to “mess up something” for a couple who have a “genuine connection.” She continued, “I wouldn’t do anything to another girl that I wouldn’t be happy with them doing to me.”
The Love Island newbie also outlined some of her dating deal-breakers, including the many things that give her the dreaded ick. “Bad hygiene, someone whose breath smells, their hair isn’t nice or they don’t look after themselves,” Gemma listed as her biggest no-nos. “A few clothing items can give me the ick, like someone who wears trainers with long socks.”
Love Island starts at 9 p.m. Monday 6th June on ITV2 and ITV Hub. Episodes are available the following morning on BritBox.
