Celia Owen was inspired by dreams of becoming an actress from a young age. A native of Prince Edward Island, the smallest province in Canada, she began performing on stage at 5 and started working professionally when she was 10.

“From a young age I spent all my time developing my skills as a dancer, actor, musician, and singer,” says Owen.

This would allow her to become what many now call a “quadruple threat.”

The Path She Was Meant to Take

Becoming an actor was never a question for Owen, as it was “always in her bones.” Growing up in Charlottetown, famously known for the musical Anne of Green Gables, she can still vividly recall watching the production as a child and feeling entirely enchanted by the magic on the stage.

“I could see myself there, and I knew right then that this was the path I was meant to take,” Owen shares.

By age 10, she was performing in Anne of Green Gables. Though she struggled with shyness as a child, she spent countless hours in the mirror singing and pretending to be on television. Theater, dancing, music, and acting gave her an escape and a way to be “someone else,” if only for a moment.

A Transition From Theater To Film

While Owen was growing up, the entertainment industry was virtually nonexistent in a place like Prince Edward Island. As a result, her dreams were often met with skepticism, and she was forced to navigate her journey without much assistance. When she finally broke into the world of theater, she would eventually have to transition to the dynamic world of film, which was also a challenge.

“One of the biggest hurdles I faced was transitioning from the theatre world, where I was already well-known, to the film industry, where I had to start from scratch,” Owen comments. “The challenge of translating the broad, larger-than-life energy of theatre to the nuanced, intimate nature of film acting is not an easy feat — it’s a skill that not everyone can master.”

However, Owen’s determination and her talent for acting would serve her well during this process. She would eventually go on to film and win a nomination for Outstanding Performance in a television series at the ACTRA Awards.

One of her most recent projects, a short film in which Owen performed, has also been met with high acclaim in the film circuit. The film has been showcased at the Off-Courts festival in Trouville, France, Aesthetica in the UK, and the Shorts Not Pants and Saskatoon Fantastic festivals in Canada.

A Quadruple Threat

Owen’s professional acting, dancing, music, and singing expertise has earned her the “quadruple threat.” This performance background, which she has developed since childhood, gives her a unique edge in the film industry.

While many performers specialize in just one or two areas, Owen can integrate all four disciplines into every role. Her broad background in theater and film has also allowed her to showcase her emotional capabilities in the projects in which she acts.

“My work in various genres […] demonstrates my range and commitment to authentic storytelling,” Owen adds. “These experiences have taught me that powerful performances can bridge gaps and connect with audiences regardless of their background.”

While Owen is still relatively new to the scene, her career is gaining notice in the circuits and media. With an ability to bridge the complex genres of comedy, drama, and everything in between, she is on her way to being a leading performer. Owen’s work and tireless commitment to her roles have shown that she is someone to watch out for.
