LED light masks have taken the beauty industry by storm — but do they really work? Well, I was just as skeptical as you probably are. But after testing one out for myself over the past few weeks (and going down a veritable rabbit hole of research), it’s safe to say I’m officially convinced.

While the Omnilux Contour Face Mask might be the most well known of the bunch, there’s another, slightly less expensive competitor that’s been garnering just as much attention on TikTok and Instagram: the Qure Q-Rejuvalight Pro Face Mask, which is the one I tried.

Keep scrolling to get my honest thoughts on the mask, and learn all about how it works.

Fast Facts:

  • Key benefits: targets signs of aging (including fine lines and an uneven skin tone), treats acne, helps prevent breakouts, calms redness, promotes an overall glow
  • Can be used once daily
  • Treatments are only three minutes
  • Wire-free design

The Science Behind LED Light Therapy

It would be easy to spend the next 30 minutes discussing all of the scientific details surrounding LED light therapy. But to simplify things, LED (light-emitting diode) light works by penetrating deeply into the skin and offering different benefits according to the wavelength (and thereby, the color) of the light. The study of LED light on the skin actually began with NASA in the ‘90s, according to the Cleveland Clinic, who report that it was initially studied in regards to wound healing.

Today, for dermatological purposes, the two most common types of LED light used are red and blue light. Blue light purportedly works by killing acne-causing bacteria, which is why it’s commonly used to help treat and prevent breakouts. Red light penetrates skin more deeply than blue light and targets various signs of aging — most notably, it helps stimulate the production of collagen, which is responsible for keeping our skin firm, full, and plump. We produce less collagen as we age, which is why we experience things like skin sagging and wrinkles. So in theory, exposing our skin to red LED light could help reverse these superficial signs of aging. Red light can also help with redness and inflammation, which is why a combination of both blue and red light are often used in the treatment and management of acne.

How Does Qure’s LED Light Mask Work?

Qure’s LED mask uses a combination of five different wavelengths (blue, amber, red, deep red, and infrared — the latter of which penetrates skin the most deeply). All five are used in the anti-aging mode, while just blue and red are used in the acne treatment mode. You can use Qure’s mask once each day, and treatments are just three minutes each. The initial configuration of the mask couldn’t be any easier, and once it’s all set up, you only need to worry about ensuring your skin is clean when you use the mask, and wiping it down with an alcohol pad in between uses.

There’s also an app with which you can create a custom facial treatment based on the needs of different areas of your face, but to be honest, I haven’t experimented with that yet.

My Honest Thoughts On The Mask

First and foremost — I’ve only been using the mask for a few weeks, and I can already see a difference in my skin. I don’t struggle with acne, so I can’t speak to the effects of the blue light treatment, but after over a dozen daily three-minute treatments with the red light/anti-aging mode, I have to admit that my skin has been looking quite radiant, and I even feel like my fine lines are less noticeable.

What I really love about the mask — and here’s why I’d probably recommend it over the Omnilux — is that the treatments are only three minutes long (whereas the Omnilux requires 10 minutes, albeit only three to five times each week). Because of this, I’ve found it’s incredibly easy to incorporate the mask into my nightly routine — no excuses not to when it only takes out three minutes of your day!

Another thing I like about the mask is that it’s comfortable to wear, and feels very secure — thanks to the thick elastic strap that’s secured with a pin, there’s no risk of it slipping or sliding off. And I’ve seen that a lot of other LED masks have a hanging wire and/or remote that you have to hold onto to control the mask, but this one doesn’t — it’s totally cord-free.

The one thing I’ll say is to definitely watch the quick start guide when you first get the mask, as it did take me some time to figure out how to set up and adjust the strap (and protective eyewear that’s included). And finally, it’s time to address the price. While the mask isn’t exactly cheap at $379, I think of it as an investment in my skin. Perhaps if use it consistently now, I won’t have to spend as much on tweakments and expensive in-office treatments in the future. In other words? If you’ve got the money to spare, it’s definitely worth it, IMO.
