This Stylish, Editor-Approved Fragrance Makes The Perfect Holiday Gift

Meet Versace Dylan Purple

Carrie Bradshaw had her shoes; I have my fragrances. I tend to my (ever-growing) fragrance wardrobe like a gardener pruning away at her hidden indoor garden, tucked away in the middle of my pre-war West Village apartment. Every glittery glass bottle in my collection has earned its spot and holds a special place in my heart. When it comes to new contenders, one sniff is all it takes for me to decide if I fall in love, or if the fragrance is to be banished to the depths of the beauty closet forever (most of the time, it’s the latter – I’m picky!).

The Bottle

All this to say that I am, by all accounts, a self-proclaimed fragrance snob. I’m also a sucker for a beautiful bottle. That’s why I was completely entranced when Versace Dylan Purple came across my desk. The electric purple bottle looks like an art piece with its amphora shape — a vessel from ancient Greek, with a Studio 54 feel. It’s the perfect holiday gift for anyone on your list who loves a sparkly dress for a night out, or a sleek blazer with thick black eyeliner. Beyond the gold-encrusted bottle and magic lamp-like shape, the juice inside is what makes this fragrance so special.

The Fragrance

At first spritz, it feels decidedly fruity — that would be the pear, bergamot and bitter orange top notes. Spritzing this feels like biting into a juicy pear, or submerging yourself in a bath of fragrant orange blossoms. Each time I wear this scent, I feel like a more fun, fresh version of myself. My Dylan Purple alter ego easily bounces from work to happy hour to drinks to the after party without breaking a sweat, leaving a sweetly-scented cloud of purple freesia and in her wake. She’s the life of the party, but also sweet and demure when she feels like it.

My favorite part of this fragrance is how it lingers on the skin. With base notes of Iso E Super, the “skin scent” molecule that adapts to every person’s unique body chemistry, as well as crisp cedarwood, it dries down to a warm, woodsy finish — the equivalent of cozying up in a booth at the end of a long night, sipping on a nightcap (a negroni, naturally).

Trust me when I say that Versace Dylan Purple is the perfect fragrance for anyone on your list for the holiday season — whether they’re someone who’s naturally the life of the party, or someone who just wants to smell like one. This fruity, juicy scent is a mood lifter in a bottle – just looking at the electric purple glass bottle is a daily dopamine boost. And couldn’t we all use a little more of that?
