Model and former NASA associate Alix Lu has partnered with Opaliris to advance virtual makeup try-on (commonly referred to as VTOs) technology, which has become an increasingly common and crucial part of makeup marketing and sales. With VTO, clients can see a digital approximation of what they will look like when a certain kind of makeup is applied. In this way, the goal of VTO is to eliminate the guesswork from product purchasing — no more getting home and opening your new lipstick only to realize you don’t actually like the way the shade looks.

While other companies’ current VTO solutions may not always function optimally, Opaliris is working hard to innovate and fine-tune its VTO technology. Opaliris is capable of providing a realistic VTO experience relative to the current solutions in the market.

Alix Lu: More Than Just the Face of the Brand

Wrapped up in the midst of this technological revolution with Opaliris is model Alix Lu, who’s become the face of the company and its innovative work. She’s been pivotal in Opaliris’ pitch to investors, with her VTO demo videos having secured several million dollars in funding from various companies. These videos are much more than simple demonstrations; instead, they serve as a way to showcase what Opaliris’ VTO tech is truly capable of.

In addition to being the public face of the brand, Lu also works closely with the Opaliris team to plan and produce demo videos both for behind-closed-door investor meetings and for the public at large, working hard to sell the VTO products on two very different fronts. This has the added benefit of giving investors an impression of how a seemingly nontechnical user engages with the product.

An Unconventional Meeting and Alliance

During the height of the NFT craze, Opaliris founder Zhao Jian met Lu on a Discord server. Despite her not knowing a great deal about NFTs, Jian noticed that Lu was able to engage in interesting discussions about them. Eventually, the two began talking extensively, and Jian learned that Lu had been asked to do modeling gigs in the past, but she found it boring. Instead, she focused on her studies as a media art student, and then she eventually got hired by a tech company.

Thinking Outside the Box and Finding Immense Success

When Opaliris received its first round of funding and began its marketing campaign, they were initially directed to well-established, agency-signed models and influencers. However, after meeting with several, Jian did not think they would be able to represent his company’s vision sufficiently. He thought back to Lu and reached out to her.

Initially, she was hesitant, but Jian managed to convince her to work with his new company. He eventually won her over by convincing her that she could provide a lot of creative input on the app’s user experience as part of the arrangement.

Now, as both the public face of Opaliris and a behind-the-scenes force in the technological instrumentation within the brand, Lu wears many hats and plays crucial roles on nearly every front. Lu is a core element of Opaliris and its innovative VTO technology.
