7 Foods That Fight Wrinkles
They say that beauty is skin deep, and as it turns out, all that truly matters when it comes to beauty really does come from within. While that still holds true for your personality, it also is the case for your skin, which is very much affected by what's going on inside your body. You can buy all the nicest creams in the world, stay out of the sun, and get monthly facials, but when it comes to having nice skin, the nutrients you are consuming are just as important.
"To improve signs of skin aging— especially lines and wrinkles — antioxidants, minerals and vitamins in your regular diet are necessary," says Dr. Christian Jurist. "What needs to be avoided includes, but is not limited to, excess dairy and derivatives, excess red meats, excess sugars and refined carbs, etc."
Maintaining a healthy diet can help fight sun-induced DNA damage, maintain hydration, and help with collagen synthesis, which will help you fight off those pesky fine lines and wrinkles that come with age. Instead of splurging on expensive anti-aging creams, you can fight off your skin problems with a healthy diet. To get skin that is smooth and youthful many years into your life, try eating the following seven foods that help fight wrinkles and signs of aging.
1. Berries
Fruits like blackberries, strawberries, and raspberries contain a high amount of antioxidants, which help fight free radicals, protecting against wrinkles. Berries also help fight against UV rays, protecting the skin against collagen damage.
2. Avocado
Foods that are high in omega-3 fatty acids, like avocado, help prevent wrinkles because they keep your skin hydrated. Omega-3 acids helps maintain cell walls, keeping moisture in.
3. Green tea
Like berries, green tea is high in free-radical-fighting antioxidants, especially polyphenols. Consuming tea also hydrates your skin, helping to maintain its natural elasticity.
4. Tomatoes
Tomatoes are high in vitamin C, which can help fight wrinkles and aging. The vitamin, along with lycopene, an antioxidant found in the fruit, also help protect against UV damage.
5. Almonds
Almonds contain a variety of healthy nutrients, including omega-3 fatty acids. But the heart-healthy nut also contains vitamin E, which helps prevent collagen damage.
6. Oranges
Filled with vitamin C, oranges help fight cell damage, protect your skin from the sun, and even promote collagen production.
7. Legumes
Legumes like beans and lentils contain minerals that support connective tissue health. Studies have found that consumption of legumes are linked to lower signs of wrinkles, as they contain beneficial phytonutrients that support collagen production.
