Want Summer To End? This Is The Playlist For You
Summertime is just the best, isn't it? It's chock full of trips to the beach, renting lake houses with your friends, bright and happy fashion, songs about summer, outdoor happy hours... and also temperatures nearing the triple digits, crowded roof deck bars, stuffy subway rides... OK, OK. I might be ready for summer to be over. June and early July are prime summer periods since the humidity isn't as putrid and the heat is still relatively livable — but, come August, summer just becomes unbearable. If you live in a city (like, say, New York City) then be prepared for the smell of hot garbage to waft throughout the streets 24/7 — and if you're a suburbanite, then cooling off at the local pool isn't even an option because it's probably too crowded to actually enjoy. (If you're in a coastal area, well, have fun with those tourists.) Don't fret, though: Summer may be miserable, but there are some things to help you fellow summer-haters — like, say, songs for people who just want summer to end already.
We are now in the February of summer, otherwise known as that awful, dreaded period where the weather makes everyone miserable, you don't want to go outside, and you find yourself snapping at your roommate almost on a daily basis. September, hear our prayer. Don't get me wrong, I do love summer and everything it stands for — barbecues, shorter workdays on Fridays, and more social acceptance of day drinking. However, I do loathe the extreme heat. Weather being in the 80's and even low 90's I can handle, but once we start pushing past 93, I am ready to throw in the sweat-soaked towel.
If you're like me and you're really over the heat, here are some songs to get you through:
The Neighbourhood — "Sweater Weather"
Come to me, sweet, sweet sweaters.
Mumford and Sons — "Winter Winds"
I'll just leave you with this, "As the winter winds litter London with lonely hearts/Oh the warmth in your eyes swept me into your arms/Was it love or fear of the cold that led us through the night?"
The Bangles — "Hazy Shade Of Winter"
Give me that ice cold '80s rock!
Bruce Springsteen — "Tenth Avenue Freeze Out"
The BOSS will always chill you out, even in the depths of summer heat waves.
Kelly Rowland — "Ice"
Yes Kelly, I DO like ice!
Kanye West — "Cold"
This one is especially helpful to push you through that gym workout that involves excessive sweating.
Mariah Carey — "All I Want For Christmas"
It's so hot out, you actually want this song to be seasonally appropriate. Christmas in July, y'all!
Birdy — "White Winter Hymnal"
Oh so very, very dreamy.
Sara Bareilles & Ingrid Michaelson —"Winter Song"
I can just FEEL the snow in this song.
Azealia Banks - Ice Princess
Brrrrr, it's cold in here! There must be some Azelia Banks in the atmosphere!
Belle And Sebastian — "The Fox In The Snow"
Oh my GOSH, I wish this was a lullaby when I was a kid.
Stay cool out there, y'all. At the very least, take this playlist, blast the air conditioning, eat an ice pop, and pretend it's not a bajillion degrees outside.
