Caitlyn Jenner's ESPY Look Was The Perfect Choice

by Shea Simmons

If you don't know who Caitlyn Jenner is then you've certainly been living under a really, excessively large rock. On Wednesday night, Caitlyn Jenner attended the 2015 ESPY Awards wearing a gorgeously elegant cream gown reminiscent of the same neutral colored corset from her memorable Vanity Fair cover. The gown almost seem to bring her inspiring journey full circle.

Tonight, she adds just one more triumph to her list of many achievements, and for the the gorgeous Olympian that's quite a lot. She has brilliantly and bravely come out as a transwoman and has been a vocal supporter of trans rights. Jenner's ability to bring awareness to trans issues will only expand after her amazing speech tonight. She's accepted the honor of the Arthur Ashe Courage Award, gave one of the most incredible speeches I've ever heard, and looked fantastic doing it.

The award is presented annually to men and women who have displayed courage in their lives, and tonight, Jenner is joining the ranks of such stars as last year's winner Michael Sam, news anchor and cancer survivor Robin Roberts, and famed boxer Mohammed Ali. Jenner's receipt of this year's award came with several questions including whether her daughter's Kendall and Kylie would be in attendance as well as more divisive questions regarding whether or not Jenner was deserving of the award. Jenner is, without a doubt, clearly deserving of the honor. Her bravery in coming out, her advocacy for trans people in the public eye, and her willingness to let the world see her for her true self are brave beyond measure.

While I could go on and on about how Jenner has already made an impact in the media for trans people, I can't overlook the fact that tonight, while accepting her award, Jenner looked stunning and just as radiant as she did on her Vanity Fair cover when she first showed the world her true self. It's really not surprising considering that Jenner has already stepped out several times looking ridiculously stylish, and she has apparently been planning her look since she was first announced as the recipient.

Caitlyn's gown featured a beautiful knotted bodice and plunging neckline that was perfect for her. E! News reported earlier Wednesday night that the activist and athlete hired Angelina Jolie's stylist for the night, and her look was definitely reminiscent of an Angie gown, but more importantly, the dress appeared to be an homage to her Vanity Fair cover. Jenner memorably wore a cream corset with her hair flowing around her face on the glossy's cover, and her face was perfectly accented with classic Hollywood glamour style makeup. Tonight, that same style was clearly visible. While it may not have been the reason Caitlyn chose the gown, I can't help but feel that her fashion choice was a way for the gorgeous trans woman to make a statement. That her journey to self acceptance and coming out process has come full circle.
