9 of The Weirdest Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade Balloons
It's been a Turkey Day tradition since the 1920s: The Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade. And I've seen all of them. I'm 100 years old. Just kidding. I'm not 100. I've only seen 20-something MTDPs. Some people like the floats, others like the musical numbers, but the majority? The majority watch for the balloons. What is it about those flying, inflated sculptures that is so fun? EVERYTHING.
Some of the balloons are staples (Snoopy! Hello Kitty! Spongebob SquarePants! Santa Claus!), and some of the balloons are so bizarre that you can't believe people actually built them and flew them through Manhattan. You know I live for the weird balloons. And the following balloons are some of my favorite weird balloons.
This Elf (2012)
What's he doing? Pooping and/or farting? Is "The Pooping Elf" a thing?
Ronald McDonald (2006)
Can someone let Ronald know that a star balloon is not a hamburger?
Live People on a Balloon (2007)
"Me? Oh, I don't know. No huge Thanksgiving plans, but I'm riding on a enormous turkey balloon dressed as a pilgrim down Fifth Avenue. What do you have going on?"
A Peanut, Riding in a Banana (2008)
Chilln' out maxin', relaxin' all cool, this Peanut's got it made in the shade.
AHHHH! (2010)
AHHHH!
"B" (2011)
Tim Burton designed "B," and B is quite the creepy little dude. Keep doing Christmas how you do Christmas, Tim Burton.
The Metallic Bunny (2007)
Artist Jeff Koons designed a faceless, silver rabbit balloon. The balloon looks too heavy to float. I'm not convinced it isn't actually made out of steel.
This Weird Thing (2012)
It's a balloon man riding a bicycle. Winner winner, turkey dinner.
