'Wild' Author Releasing New Book You'll Wanna Read

by Caroline Goldstein

Everyone loves a good inspirational quote. Contemporary readers in need of some literary motivation are in luck: Cheryl Strayed's Brave Enough , due out October 27, will feature more than one hundred of the writer's most insightful tidbits. The quotes will be culled from a range of Strayed's writing, including her debut novel Torch , her nonfiction collection Tiny Beautiful Things: Advice on Love and Life From Dear Sugar , and, of course, her bestselling memoir Wild, for which Reese Witherspoon earned an Oscar nom for her role in the movie adaptation.

According to a press release from Knopf, Strayed's publisher, the collection aims to highlight Strayed's "wisdom, courage, and outspoken humor." Strayed herself writes that Brave Enough is intended to "be a book of yes." The writer adds:

I think of quotes as mini-instruction manuals for the soul. It’s my appreciation for their very usefulness that compelled me to put together this book. Not because I believe in my own sagacity, but because I believe in the power of words to help us reset our intentions, clarify our thoughts, and create a counter-narrative to the voice of doubt many of us have murmuring in our heads. The one that says You can’t, you won’t, you shouldn’t have.

A book of inspirational quotes from the woman who survived a 2,500+ mile hike solo? Count me in.
