When news first broke of a sequel to the 1996 hit Independence Day we were excited, but skeptical. Sure, it was a great action film that transformed Will Smith from The Fresh Prince to a superstar, but sequels, especially after so long are tricky. (Looking at you, Men In Black 3.) The original director, Roland Emmerich, is returning and that's a good sign, but what about the cast?
There's good news and bad news. Good news: It was just announced that stars from the original film Jeff Goldblum and Bill Pullman will return for the sequel. Bad news: still no Smith. Seriously, how are they going to have Independence Day without its star? And, considering that the sequel will be set 20 years after the events of the first movie, it doesn't even make sense for Pullman to return. Come on Will, if they throw in a role for Jaden will you consider it?
Oh well. Silver lining:
