What Is Donald Trump's Net Worth?

by April Siese

Donald Trump is not having the best of weeks. Sure, most of his troubles have stemmed from the consequences of his own comments, but it can't be easy losing contracts with Macy's, NBCUniversal, and Univision, the latter of whom the presidential hopeful is suing for allegedly going back on a $13.5 million deal. Somehow, Trump is still soldiering on with his campaign despite the substantial loss, which seriously begs the question: What is Donald Trump's net worth?

That 10-figure number is actually $4.1 billion, according to Forbes, who calculated Trump's net worth as part of its billionaire's issue in March. According to Trump, however, he's worth more than double of that based on brand recognition and a whole host of ambiguous factors. Trump has proudly boasted a net worth of $8.7 billion, which Forbes vehemently disputes. According to staff writer Erin Carlyle, the publication has spent over three decades tracking Trump's finances.

We have worked both with him and outside experts who can help us come up with a fair market valuation of his assets. Every year, Trump shares a lot of information with us that helps us get to the figures we publish. But he also consistently pushes for a higher net worth — especially when it comes to the value of his personal brand.

That personal brand apparently carried enough heft to warrant a substantial raise by NBC in 2011. According to AdWeek, the Donald was set to receive an estimated $65 million annual salary spread over two years from his now former network. No numbers have been released regarding Trump's salary since he was fired from NBC over his controversial comments about Mexico, in which he insinuated that only criminals were immigrating to the United States from south of the border. Given that Trump commanded such a high salary just four years ago, it's safe to say the amount he's now losing is pretty substantial. Likewise, Macy's, who also cut ties with Trump, has yet to release any numbers concerning their partnership with him. Bustle has reached out for comment and is awaiting a response.

In typical Trump form, the Donald has steered the narrative away from the company dropping him and instead has insisted the split was his doing. Says Trump:

I have decided to terminate my relationship with Macy's because of the pressure being put on them by outside sources. While selling Trump ties and shirts at Macy's is a small business in terms of dollar volume, my principles are far more important and therefore much more valuable.

Despite the contradictory narrative playing out in Trump's head, his $4.1 billion net worth continues to act as a cushion from even the biggest of blows. The Donald may have little promise in becoming president, but he's certainly got the capital to perpetuate that dream. After all, Trump said he'd finance his campaign by himself .
