What Will Ser Davos Do Next On 'Game of Thrones'?

by Leah Marilla Thomas

Castle Black is going to be a busy place at the start of Game of Thrones Season 6. However, while most of the characters will be dealing with the aftermath of Jon Snow's assassination What's going to happen when Davos finds out about Shireen when Game of Thrones returns? Stannis may be dead after burning his daughter at the stake, but I'm sure those actions will have continued repercussions. Ser Davos Seaworth and Princess Shireen Baratheon were the best of friends since their first scene in Season 3 of Game of Thrones.Shireen taught him how to read. Davos made toys for her. He was, in many ways, more of a father to her than Stannis ever was.

At the end of the season, Davos had ridden to Castle Black to try and persuade the Night's Watch and/or the Wildlings to ride to Winterfell and take on the Boltons. When Melisandre arrives, looking shaken, he asks about Shireen. The Red Priestess is silent, so Davos has a pretty good idea of what happened to her. However, someone has to tell him, and I'm interested in the conflict that will arise when someone does. What will Davos do next? Here are a few of my theories.

Kill Melisandre

Until Jon Snow found himself in need of a Red Priestess, this is what I would be gunning for to happen. I'm not too fond of any of the religions in Westeros that much, but the fire and sacrifice required to worship the Lord of Light are particularly creepy. Davos already has issues with Melisandre. He knows she was manipulating Stannis, and he doesn't like what she did to Gendry and so many others in the name of their cause. Eventually she's got to go, and I would kind of love it if Ser Davos got to do the deed.

Just, like, if she could find time in her schedule to resurrect Jon Snow first, that would be awesome.

Join the Night's Watch

Again, I would say that the Watch could use a man like Ser Davos — but I don't care so much about those jerks anymore.

Lead Stannis' Army

This is how leaders are born, frankly. Presumng that Brienne of Tarth did in fact kill Stannis, what are all of his bannerman going to do now? They are suffering after a defeat at Winterfell. They have no King to follow. There aren't any legitimate Baratheons left if you consider King Tommen's true parentage. Unless the Matthew Crawley of Game of Thrones appears (a working class cousin deep in the succession line), they need a new leader.

It's possible that he could attempt to rescue Sansa Stark, like a still living Mance Rayder does in the books for Arya/Jeyne, but since Sansa and Theon already escaped Winterfell, I'm not sure how that will play out.

Go Find Rickon

It's not as random as it seems. This is actually what Davos Seaworth is doing in the A Song of Ice and Fire novels. He is taken prisoner by House Manderly (who has not appeared on the show) who fakes his execution and then sends him off to retrieve the youngest Stark. How could this happen on the HBO series? Davos could have a chance encounter with Sansa Stark. He could also be forced to make a deal with Roose Bolton instead of Lord Manderly.

Go Find Gendry

Pretty please? Like I just said, Westeros is running short on Baratheons. What if Davos went off to find the one who's #stillrowin'
