How 'Harry Potter' Fans Reacted To The New Play

by Loretta Donelan

And there you were, thinking the Harry Potter universe ended with the seventh book. J.K. Rowling has once again shown that the magical world is always expanding. On Friday, June 26, the Harry Potter author revealed that she has written a new story for the stage; the play, called Harry Potter and the Cursed Child, will open in London's West End, and it will tell a story along Harry's journey that has not previously been explored. It is not, however, a prequel.

It's difficult to imagine what the play will be about, or even what format it will be in, but Rowling has promised that it makes sense as a play, rather than a novel. The author has collaborated with the writer Jack Thorne and director John Tiffany to create the play, and Imogen Heap will provide the music. So, is it a musical? Is it an interactive mystery, thus necessitating the stage format? All we Harry Potter fans know is that this is huge news. Twitter has freaked out, with most people speculating about what this new play could possible be about.

From confusion to joy, here are the reactions that all Harry Potter fans had to the news.

When you wondered if this was real:

I thought it might be one of those unauthorized adaptations.

And then you realized that it was very real:

And authorized.

And Rowling herself had tweeted about it:

The day she discovered Twitter was a great day for us all.

Before you remembered that you don't live in London:

And how do I get to London?

But you'll at least get to read about the plot:

From the lucky ducks who could go.

What could it possibly be about?

Harry's baby?

And Imogen Heap is somehow involved?

Which somehow seems like a perfect fit.

And even when it's all over, you'll still have Fantastic Beasts to look forward to:

2016 will be a great year.
