Marilyn Monroe's Last Film Dress Is Up For Auction

by Shea Simmons

Marilyn Monroe has long been upheld as a paragon of female beauty in Hollywood that was best known for her films, her stunning physique, and, sadly, her troubled life. With such a high amount of notoriety, it's no wonder that people are still clamoring for her former belongings. An auction for Marilyn Monroe's dress from her last film is happening in Hollywood this week, and the frock is set to fetch between $300,000-$500,000. The dress joins other items such as a Harley Davidson owned by Marlon Brando and wedding cake slices from the royals.

Though Monroe has become more well known for her appearance than her wits, the stunning actress was a brilliant woman, far ahead of her time and a talented comedic actress. So, it's no surprise that this isn't the first time a part of the actress's former wardrobe has been auctioned. Last year, Marilyn's dress from River of No Return was on sale for $600,000! Really, if you think about it, this is a steal, right?

The very expensive dress in question is a floral silk crepe dress that hugged each of Marilyn's famous curves. She sported the dress in her last and unfinished film Something's Got To Give. Martin Nolan, executive director of the auction, explains the dress's value stating, "It's the last dress that Marilyn Monroe wore in her last movie, her last career-worn dress...The image of Marilyn wearing that dress was used by all of the national newspapers when they announced (her) tragic and untimely passing."

If you're a Marilyn fan, then for curiosity's sake, you can keep an eye on the ultimate price for Monroe's dress. It's no doubt going to be a hit item at auction. However, if you're committed enough, maybe you could whip out that credit card and drop half a mil for a little slice of Hollywood history.
