Meet Your New Favorite Sundress Collection

by Tyler Atwood

If your summer aesthetic is bohemian, insouciant, and ever-so-slightly tousled, the frock of your dreams is on the horizon. Cult favorite Brooklyn clothing and accessories boutique Bird has announced a new in-house womenswear line designed with both style and ease in mind, Fashionista reports. Cue the frenetic race to snap up every last dress. The store's retail website, ShopBird.com, and brick-and-mortar stores in Brooklyn began to sell the line on June 24.

Consumers who are familiar with Bird's curated selection of artisanal wares will fall head over heels for the new collection and its mid-range cost, whose upward cap is $345. Plaid, ikat, and floral patterns adorn the collection, which is comprised of five dress cuts available in 12 fabric iterations, but consumers searching for a more subdued look can also find monochrome frocks in rosy peach and indigo shades.

The collection possesses a vaguely vintage feel with flared skirts and high necklines, but unexpected details including deep, drooping pockets and tunic-style tops bring each piece into the 21st century. According to Bird's creator, Jen Mankins, the impetus for the collection was vintage fabric snippet that evokes the very feel of a cool summer eve. “I had found this Indian Madras fabric 10 years ago and bought a stash of it because I loved it and I never quite knew what I’d do with it. It had been sitting in the basement of Bird’s Cobble Hill store for 10 years,” Mankins explained to Fashionista. If you're on the hunt for your next summer staple sundress, look no further than Bird.
