A Definitive Ranking of All Those 'Ted 2' Cameos
Ted, the world's most adorably inappropriate teddy bear, is back on June 26 with Ted 2 — and this time, he brought some new friends along. In the second film, Mark Wahlberg and Seth MacFarlane (who also directs and writes the movie) are back once more as "Thunder Buddies" John and Ted. Joining them? Mamma Mia actress and newcomer to the franchise Amanda Seyfried as the female lead, a pot smoking lawyer named Sam L. Jackson (see what they did there?) who is representing Ted in a civil rights case to be recognized as a "real person" in a court of law. The new faces don't just end with Seyfried's addition, though — the many Ted 2 celebrity cameos are as hilarious as they are blatantly random.
From Morgan Freeman to Liam Neeson, tons of stars make hilarious appearances in the film, some playing themselves, some playing the types of characters you'd likely only seen in a work that comes from MacFarlane. All of these celeb cameos add some comedy realness to the movie's main trio, keeping the movie a constant surprise and a lot of fun. Below, a ranking of Ted 2's motley crew of actors, from the awesome to the even more awesome (some spoilers ahead):
11.) John Slattery as Shep Wild
In Ted 2 John Slattery plays the "enemy" lawyer who is trying to prove that Ted isn't a person. Is there a role where the Mad Men alum doesn't wear a suit?
10) Jimmy Kimmel as Himself
Always on top of all things pop culture, Jimmy Kimmel plays himself on his own talk show. He discusses Ted's case, which makes national headlines in the movie.
7-9) Kate McKinnon, Bobby Moynihan, and Taran Killam as Themselves
There's something so satisfyingly meta about seeing the trio portray Amanda Seyfried, John Slattery and Ted in a parody of the case on a fictitious episode of Saturday Night Live.
6) Sam Jones as Himself
Sam Jones reprises his role as a parodied version of himself and fuels the movie's obsession with the iconic Flash Gordon actor.
5) Jay Leno as Himself
Jay Leno's denim-clad cameo is a drive-by joke in the movie that echoes the humor of MacFarlane's Family Guy. Without spoiling anything, it involves a bar bathroom and sex.
4) Tom Brady as Himself
In the movie, Ted and his wife want to have a baby. Seeing as the bear doesn't have the appropriate equipment for this, he wants to get the perfect sperm to inseminate his wife. So he and John infiltrate the handsome NFL quarterback's house to try to retrieve exactly that. The results are glorious.
3.) Patrick Stewart as the Narrator
If you can't quite put your finger on whose voice that is narrating this movie, I'll help you out. It's Professor X... or, if you prefer, Jean Luc Picard. Sir Patrick Stewart reprises his role as the all-knowing narrator and I didn't realize it was his voice until now.
2.) Morgan Freeman as Patrick Meighan
If you want someone to play a top-notch civil rights attorney, there is no one to hire BUT Morgan Freeman. As Patrick Meighan, he is the powerhouse lawyer with the voice of God that represents Ted's case. As Ted points out, he wants to "make a bed out of his voice and sleep in it" — something we all want to do.
1.) Liam Neeson as Grocery Store Customer
Liam Neeson's character had absolutely no purpose in this movie other than to provide comedic relief. Then again, this is a Seth MacFarlane film, so anything goes. Nonetheless, Neeson's cameo is the best because it's so random, and so much fun. He essentially plays Bryan Mills from Taken buying a box of Trix from a grocery store... and he takes it VERY seriously.
So many cameos, so little time — see if you can catch them all when Ted 2 comes to theaters June 26.
