What Your Sign Says About Your Love Life

Have you ever wondered what it would be like to date yourself? Not in a self-absorbed kind of way, but more of a learning experience from your partner's perspective? Or, on the other hand, wouldn’t it be nice to know what you can expect in a person ahead of time, without having to go on several dates with them (then subsequently finding out they collect Power Ranger memorabilia and have dedicated an entire room of their house to it)? Of course it would be —but that’s just not feasible. It could be, but that would depend on your beliefs. If you believe in astrology, for example, you'll surely see how your zodiac sign affects your love life.

As research evidences, many believe in the power of the stars. A Harris poll from 2009 found that 26 per cent of Americans believe in astrology (23 percent of whom were male, and 28 percent were female). With these strong statistics paving the way, we spoke to Aliza Kelly Faragher and Helen Grossman, co-founders of Align, a Los Angeles-based app that matches members based on astrology and other identifying factors, to let us in on what each sign is like based on their love lives. Here's what it’s like to date each astrological sign.

Aries (March 21-April 19)

“Aries are ruled by Mars (the planet named after the God of War), so this kind of gives you a sense of the Aries attitude,” Faragher says. “They stop at nothing to get what they want, and are therefore the ultimate crusaders.” In their love lives, an Aries likes to take charge and call the shots — they’re born action-takers. “They also happen to be extremely physical,” she says. “And when they feel hurt or challenged, they aren’t going to brood over it.” The Aries' short temper is evidenced by the fact that they tend to move on quickly.

Taurus (April 20-May 20)

Ruled by Venus, romance is a perfect fit for Taureans. These highly sensual Earth signs are no strangers to luxury. They enjoy fine dining, luxurious baths, and beautiful fabrics. “Love comes naturally to loyal Taureans,” Faragher says. “But these individuals are also known for their hardheadedness.” Once a Taurus has made up their mind, there’s no turning back, so it’s mighty wise to stay on their good side.

Gemini (May 21-June 21)

Geminis are natural communicators and have very creative souls. They are known for their charm and chattiness, and tend to enjoy playful courtships. That being said, impulsive Geminis have a difficult time committing. “In order to lock a Gemini down, keep the relationship fun with lots of activities, engaging conversations, and, of course, make room for plenty of party time,” Faragher says.

Cancer (June 22-July 22)

Cancer’s symbol is the crab for a reason: their hard shells protect their gooey, sensitive insides. “The only sign ruled by the moon, Cancer is one of the most misunderstood signs because their moodiness oscillates between being extremely sweet and, well, terrifying,” Grossman admits. “While being intuitive and innovative people, great cooks, and beautiful homemakers, Cancers aren’t always comfortable communicating their inner desires or feelings, especially if they haven’t established trust with a partner.”

Leo (July 23-August 22)

“You don’t get a more loyal, charming partner than a Leo,” Grossman says. Ruled by the Sun and symbolized by the lion, Leo is the center of attention. In their love life, Leo wears their hearts on their sleeves, and are quite sensitive. Leos also need validation and attention, but Grossman insists a Leo will always be a fun partner that is open to new experiences, adventures, and conversations. “Once you’re in their heart, you’re there to stay,” she adds.

Virgo (August 23-September 22)

“Virgos are super intelligent and extremely witty, so these lovers make great partners for those attracted to language,” Faragher says. Natural perfectionists, Virgos take pride in everything they do, so they are diligent in making sure their partner is happy in the relationship. That being said, “Virgos do have the tendency to nit-pick so they prefer safer, stable relationships than quick summer romances,” Faragher says.

Libra (September 23-October 22)

In love, Libras are all about their partner, often to their own detriment. They are considerate and attentive to their partner’s needs and desires, but can sublimate their own needs in attempting to keep the peace. “A Libra will more often ask ‘what do you want to do?’ than explain what he or she is feeling like, so it’s important to let them know that you care about what they want as well,” Grossman says.

Scorpio (October 23-November 21)

Sexy and mysterious, Scorpios are intense in love. It takes time for Scorpios to feel comfortable enough letting a partner in and showing vulnerability. “Scorpios relish in the game of figuring people out (and being figured out) but can easily turn that knowledge against you if they feel wronged in any way,” Grossman says. “Don’t mess with a Scorpio, and they’ll love you forever.”

Sagittarius (November 22-December 21)

It’s hard to pin a Sag down, but once you do, you’ll always have something new and exciting to talk about. "Sagittarius, the archer, is not necessarily the most committal sign, but they are intellectual powerhouses, and are always curious to meet new people and exploring new cultures," Grossman says. "They're also hilarious to be around."

Capricorn (December 22-January 19)

Capricorns are known to be the hardest working sign in the zodiac, so sometimes it’s hard for this Earth sign to schedule romance. "However, when a Capricorn thinks someone is worth it, he or she will prioritize, building a healthy, long-lasting, and worthwhile relationship," Faragher counters. "It’s not necessarily easy for a Capricorn to express emotions, but these lovers are unparalleled in their steadfast support and dedication."

Aquarius (January 20-February 18)

Aquarians are free spirits and hate to be tied down. When it comes to romance, these lovers need to be given their space. “Intellectual and curious, Aquarians make excellent partners in crime, and are always up for trying new things and pursuing hobbies (especially cultural),” Faragher admits. “The love life of an Aquarius is fueled by adventure and imagination.”

Pisces (February 19-March 20)

Certainly the most sensitive and intuitive sign, the Pisces relies on all the feels. While their dreaminess sometimes makes commitment difficult, they are extremely sensual lovers whose sharp emotional intelligence guides their romantic proclivities. "Pisces know how to make a deep impression on their lovers," Faragher shares.
