Are Vincent & Catherine Getting Married?
After months (and months and months) of waiting, it's finally upon us: The return of Beauty and the Beast on the CW. Season 2 ended on a happy note, likely because it was under the constant threat of cancellation all season long. Now, it's been renewed through Season 4, but we've still got a lot of ground to cover before we get there. Season 3 premieres June 11, and while there's no telling what will happen for sure, Bustle had the opportunity to speak to star Austin Basis (who plays J.T. Forbes the biochemistry-professor), and he gave us some Beauty and the Beast Season 3 spoilers. I asked Basis to summarize and spoil Season 3, and he did so, but only in emoji form. Still, the images he chose are pretty telling.
I have poured over these emojis, picked them apart, and put them back together again. I've sent them to the lab for testing, and I've consulted with the world's leading emoji experts (yeah, those could both be a real things). After much analysis, I can say with 100% certainty: I don't know what the heck he means. Sorry! But, I do have a few solid guesses, and I welcome you to try and interpret the meaning on your own.
Here is the cryptic message:
1. Wedding Bells Are Ringing
Love is in the air and I think it is safe to assume that this means that Vincent and Catherine are getting engaged. Well earned after everything they went through last season.
2. Key To The Castle
First comes engagement, then comes moving in? Makes sense to me, especially when you hear what Basis has to say about the big conflict next season. "It’s not going to be about Vincent and Catherine's domestic squabbles. There’s another destiny for these forces of this government agency who has propositioned them to help in their battle." Operative word being domestic. As in, they totally move in together.
3. The Glasses Make The Man
The glasses have to stand for J.T. right? The first two images seem to point in Vincent and Catherine's direction, but I think we are pivoting to J.T. since the next symbol is the syringe, clearly indicating whatever mystery-agent saved his life. Basis explains that struggling with his salvation is going to be a big theme of the season as he searches for the answer to: "The greater purpose of why was I saved."
4. Experiments Go Boom
I'm guessing that J.T. gets a hold of the cure and researches it in the lab, trying to figure out what the heck happened to him, and his lab blows up! Or the cure blows up! Or... something bad happens. For sure.
5. The Devil
Hold up, is this Beauty and the Beast or Supernatural? This probably should be taken more figuratively, not literally. I'm guessing that this is the symbol for the mystery agency and that we find out they are up to some real bad stuff.
6. True Love
This one's easy! All's well that ends well, the gang works together and defeats the devil. It looks like we are getting more teamwork this season. According to Basis: "It's not just Vincent and Catherine against the world. It’s Vincent, Katherine, Tess, Heather, and J.T. against the world. You start seeing the relationships between everyone and it allows for a full experience of each of the conflicts they face."
Sounds like a plan to me.
