For weeks, buzz has been building about the Gilmore Girls reunion at the ATX Television Festival, and fans were thrilled to see the beloved stars share a stage. But would they announce something epic? Maybe something like a Gilmore Girls reunion movie or new season? It's not a totally unreasonable request, we spent seven years in Stars Hollow, growing to love every single character who ever stumbled into the wacky town, and we just want the opportunity to visit it one more time. The possibility was addressed at the ATX Reunion, with Emily Gilmore herself, Kelly Bishop, first bringing it up, before moderator Jessica Shaw asked the question on all of our minds.
Using star Scott Patterson's cryptic comments on the Gilmore Guys podcast to get the conversation started, Shaw asked creator Amy Sherman-Palladino flat-out if there is a movie or anything similar ahead. "There's nothing in the works at the moment," she said. But don't lose all hope yet, because Palladino continued with much more exciting comments. "Here's the good thing: nobody here hates each other. That's very important. It would have to be the right everything. The right format, the right timing. It would have to be honored in a certain way," she continued, and I'm sure all fans would agree.
"If it ever came around, I think we would all jump in and do it," Palladino said, leading Shaw to ask the group of stars assembled on stage, "Would you all?" They all enthusiastically nodded, letting Palladino assure fans, "if it ever were to happen, I promise you we will do it correctly."
If you need further proof that more Gilmore Girls is indeed possible, Shaw also asked Palladino what the famed final four words of the series were supposed to be, and she still won't give it up. Why not? "In my mind...I don't know," she said. "You never know." Palladino is still holding out because there's always the chance she'll still get to use them.
It seems the only person who may want more Gilmore Girls even more than us fans is Bishop. Earlier in the panel before it was specifically addressed, she had a sweet exchange with Palladino, in which Bishop ribbed her former showrunner and said, "please don't take lines away from me," to which Palladino responded, "I don't have that power anymore." Speaking for all of us, Bishop immediately responded, "you still could."
When the crowd went wild, Bishop motioned to the excited fans, eventually saying, "collectively, we can all make this happen." Maybe the sheer amount love shown for Gilmore Girls at this real-life reunion will help bring about the on-screen one we've all been hoping for.
