Who knew that playing husband and wife in a little movie called Mr. and Mrs. Smith would lead to the epic real-life marriage of Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie? Well, you can kinda tell from the movie that their chemistry was incredible. Looking back at the movie 10 years later, Mr. and Mrs. Smith is filled with moments where you can tell Pitt and Jolie are totally in love and/or falling for each other. The 2005 flick is like an on-camera chronicle of their early romance.
Even from the opening moments of the movie, it's clear that Brangelina was in the making. And Jolie admitted to the New York Times in a 2008 interview that she's excited for her kids to see Mr. and Mrs. Smith one day. "Not a lot of people get to see a movie where their parents fell in love," she said. Pitt and Jolie played John and Jane Smith in this action romp about married couple, each of whom are secret assassins hired to kill the other. While the real-life romance overshadowed the movie, it's quite apparent from Mr. and Mrs. Smith that these killers were in love.
"What makes the movie work is that Pitt and Jolie have fun together on the screen, and they're able to find a rhythm that allows them to be understated and amused even during the most alarming developments," Roger Ebert wrote in his review of the movie.
So in no particular order, here are the scenes where you can feel the love — and the heat — of Brangelina.
1. The Steamy Dance Scene
Fire, rain, and booze. Brad and Angie dance it out in this scene and oh man, is it hot in here? Never has a dance been more hot. Their chemistry just sizzles.
2. The Fight Scene & Sex Scene
This sequence pretty much proves that there's a thin line between love and hate. The Smiths finally face off against each other and the fighting is just as intense as the lovemaking that follows. Someone cover the Pitt-Jolie kids' eyes for these scenes.
3. This Cute Flashback
Let's pretend this is one of Brangelina's actual dates at a carnival and Angie wins herself a stuffed toy. I hate to go all Tumblr on you all, but check out the way they're looking at each other. These loving glances are such a give away.
4. The Blooper Reel
Look at how cute they are laughing together. They were falling in love and having a blast. How lucky.
5. This Alternate Ending
Rather than end in the marriage therapists' office, the conclusion to the movie shows Pitt and Jolie's characters in a market on the hunt for a very sacred treasure — their daughter. They find her and she fires a toy arrow onto the head of a toy baby and John Smith is so proud that he takes a photo of the shot.
Ten years later, the Jolie-Pitts have their own brood of kids and another movie they filmed together coming out called By The Sea. Oh how far they've come.
