Caitlyn Jenner is a member of one of those most stylish families in the world. A parent to some of the most fabulous, designer sought-after women in the world, Jenner has a lot of keeping up to do when it comes to fashion (excuse the pun). But here's the truth: Caitlyn Jenner is by far the most stylish member of the Kardashian/Jenner family. From her taste in clothes to her look on the cover of that the Vanity Fair issue that introduced Caitlyn Jenner to the world, Jenner knows what she's doing when it comes to fashion. And we all have a few style lessons to learn from her, I think.
When Jenner was interviewed by Diane Sawyer in a 20/20 episode discussing her transition from Bruce to Caitlyn Jenner, it was clear that her personal style is something that is concrete and individualized from the Kardashian style. "She is definitely a Jenner," Jenner joked with Sawyer when discussing Caitlyn's fashion sense.
As if the Vanity Fair cover wasn't enough proof that Jenner is a fashion superstar in her own right, here are some other reasons. You know, just in case you need convincing that Caitlyn Jenner is the really the only fashion star in her famous family that you need to be paying attention to.
1. That. Cover.
I mean, really. How can we not start with this moment? Everything about the look, from Jenner's classic hairstyle to her simple and sexy corseted bodysuit, is perfection. Not to mention: What a powerful statement. Take notes, all.
2. Her Knowledge Of Her Own Fashion Identity
Is there anything more inspiring in fashion than someone who knows exactly what their personal sense of style is and isn't about to make any apologies for it? It must be difficult for any woman in the Kardashian/Jenner clan to find their own style identity, but Caitlyn has made it clear that she knows what she wants to wear, and who she is. And that is a very powerful thing in the world of style.
3. Her Appreciation For Simplicity
The Kardashians really are not super in touch with the simpler side of fashion. All of the girls seem to have glam squads and stylists and people telling them what to wear and when to wear it, but Caitlyn Jenner clearly has an appreciation for the simple, straightforward beauty of clean lines and natural makeup. We could all learn a little bit about how to dial the style craziness down a bit sometimes, I think.
4. Her Knowledge That It's The Little Things That Matter
This goes back to Caitlyn's clear appreciation of classic simplicity in fashion, but is an important reminder for all of us, I think. Caitlyn's often difficult transition to and acceptance of her true self and gender and, specifically, her comments during that Diane Sawyer interview (during which she was still going by her former name) were important reminders of the things that some of us often take for granted.
The ease and beauty of wearing nail polish until it chips off, for example. The fashion and beauty details that most of us don't acknowledge for a second daily are things that are important to Caitlyn. It makes you think about your beauty routine a little differently, doesn't it? And I think that second thought is incredibly important.
5. Her Sense Of Humor
In the beginning of Caitlyn's interview with Diane Sawyer she said, "We have to keep a sense of humor about this." And although she said so with tears in her eyes, there's a style lesson to be gained here.
We are all inherently unique, just as our fashion and style identities are, and not everyone is going immediately connect with our own identities (in terms of fashion, or otherwise). Sometimes the most powerful, inspiring thing you can do is learn to have a sense of humor about the things about yourself that other people don't understand. Be confident, be yourself, and have a laugh or two along the way.
