Women Try Their Mom's Hairstyles From The '80s
As much as I love my mother, the apple could not have fallen farther from the tree when it comes to hair. Cut, color, highlight — we’re very different in who would wear what. This Memorial Day Weekend at BuzzFeed, women tried their mother’s '80s hairstyles on for size, and when it comes to the traditional '80s do, one size fits all: big. Let’s just say there was a whole lot of perming going on back then.
Note: I’ve seen the photos. My mother was a babe no matter the decade. Would I timewarp my hair back to the '80s stylings of my mother? Before this video, probably not. No offense towards her volumized locks; I’ve simply come to the conclusion over years of trial and error that my hair looks best as straight as it can get without sacrificing body. However, after seeing this video, I'm kinda inspired to try some ringlets.
Styles come and go but oftentimes we stem inspiration from the dos and don'ts of the past. Maybe I wont be incorporating a full head of bouncy curls into my daily beauty routine, but I could totally rock pinning my hair to one side and curling the ends. So retro.
The best part about this experiment had to be watching each of the three young women’s mother’s reactions to seeing their daughters work their hairstyles from back in the day. The general consensus? Cute, but let’s stick to what we know now.
There’s a reason our styles evolve, right? Maybe not always for the best, but we’ll let our own daughters decide that for themselves. Check out the before and after shots of these three ladies as their hair of 2015 meets mouse, teasing, aqua net, and curls, curls, curls.
