Now that Memorial Day is behind us, it's time to cue the summer TV shows that will take over the small screen. Sure, there are one or two season finales left to go, but now it's time for all of the summer shows, both new and old, to take over. Who knows? You might end up with a new obsession. One could be NBC's I Could Do That , premiering Tuesday night, which follows celebrities such as Ciara and Joe Jonas as they're challenged to learn new and daring skills, like magic and being a Harlem Globetrotter. And it looks like singer Nicole Scherzinger will team up with actor Alan Ritchson to taken on learning some cool fire pit dancing. It shouldn't be to hard for him, since Ritchson is a very versatile actor who has appeared on TV and movies, as well as doing some work as a model.
The 30-year-old actor and model has starred in Spike TV's comedy series Blue Mountain State and The CW's Smallville, as well as appearing in small roles in big movies like The Hunger Games: Catching Fire and Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. And I Can Do That isn't Ritchson's first time on a reality competition TV show — he auditioned for American Idol in 2004, singing his song exclusively to judge Paula Abdul, who called him a "hottie." Who could blame her for being smitten with the handsome contestant?
Here are some other roles you may recognize Ritchson from.
That American Idol Audition
Just so you can get a taste of his voice.
As Aquaman On Smallville
Ritchson embodied the other DC superhero and his alter ego Arthur "A.C." Curry on the young Clark Kent/Superman-centered series.
"I think that A.C. really leaves an impression on Clark, makes him think 'maybe I should do something more with this. Maybe I'm not doing enough,'" Ritchson told KryptonSite in an interview.
As Thad Castle On Blue Mountain State
Ritchson played the team's senior captain in this college football comedy series that will be releasing a Kickstarter-funded movie this year to wrap up the Spike TV series. The cable network canceled the show after its third season.
As Gloss In The Hunger Games: Catching Fire
Gloss is one of the tributes in the Hunger Games, but also doesn't last very long in the competition. RIP, Gloss.
As Raphael In Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles
In last year's reboot of the beloved crime-fighting turtle series, Ritchson plays Raphael — as both the rebellious turtle's voice and motion-capture performer.
As A Model
Ritchson has modeled his fit bod for Abercrombie & Fitch, as well as working as an underwear model. "I’m comfortable with my body and comfortable with myself," he told The Backlot in an interview. "My philosophy isn’t for someone who is extreme with their body and their image. I see people everyday that are in way better shape than me, but I’m where I want to be because I found a good balance."
But will he be comfortable with all the challenges on I Can Do That? We shall see.
