Kim Stands By Bruce During His Coming Out

by Martha Sorren

I'm nominating Kim Kardashian for daughter of the year award. Not only has she been in the media talking about her support of Bruce Jenner's admission that he is "for all intents and purposes ... a woman," but she's putting that support into action. On Sunday's special Keeping Up With The Kardashians: About Bruce episode, Bruce Jenner came out to Kim, and she reacted with utter support. It's one thing to tell the press you stand by Jenner, but I was glad to see that Kim is just as kind in real life as she is in the media.

It was certainly hard for her to hear the news, she even broke down crying in one of the previews, because she was worried about how her mother Kris was handling the news. But despite it all, she fully embraced her step-father's decision and, even better, seemed genuinely excited for him. She even sat down to have a conversation with him about nail polish and makeup. "You do [your nails] yourself?" She asked, impressed.

She told the camera: "We want to understand his struggle, we want to learn about it, we want to relate to it in someway."

When sitting down with Jenner, she told him: "I think we know you well enough to know that you don't want to hurt us. Like, that's not even a concern of ours. I think what just hurts us is when we hear that things are changing and happening and we don't know about it. We just want to be in the loop."

Kim went on to ask him straight on if Jenner plans on becoming fully a woman, to which Bruce said, "I see myself in the future that way." Jenner then revealed to Kim that the Diane Sawyer interview was coming up, and Kim didn't know about it.

During his interview with Diane Sawyer, Jenner said that Kim has been his most supportive family member, and that was easy to see on Sunday's episode. Kim also posted an important message on Instagram about why they chose to share these emotional moments with the public. "Our hope is that other families experiencing similar situations as ours don't feel alone!" she wrote on an Instagram post promoting the show. "Life is about love and acceptance and we all have our own journey! With support and love of others especially family anything is possible!"

But Kim's response also featured some confusion. She expressed on the E! special that she feels resentful and angry on behalf of her mom, Kris Jenner, who was married to Bruce for over two decades. But ultimately, she's happy for Bruce.

Jenner relied on Kim a lot, too. She was the family "representative" who would tell the family about Jenner. "I can be calm. I won't cry in front of him," said Kim of her role.

I'm glad that during this tough time, Jenner has her to rely on. Family support is really important, and he can always count on his daughter Kim to have his back.

At the end of Kim's chat with Jenner, she said, "I got you."
