As any Gilmore Girls fan will tell you, there's a long-standing debate about which guy was the best match for Rory Gilmore. There are three options: Dean Forester, Jess Mariano, or Logan Huntzberger. A majority of the show's loyal viewers are adamant about being Team Jess. (Personally, I was always rooting for Dean. He built her a car!) But another debate is whether she should've accepted Logan's proposal. He was a rich jerk sometimes, yet something about him and Rory worked really well. Ultimately, she turned down his offer of marriage and he literally said, "Goodbye, Rory" and walked away. In a recent Reddit AMA, Matt Czuchry, aka the actor who played Logan, discussed Rory's rejection and said what we were all thinking.
When a Reddit user asked what Czuchry thought of Logan's exit from the show, the actor had the best possible response:
I actually liked how Rory refused Logan's proposal. I feel that the show is about 2 strong independent women, and that refusal captures the heart of the show. And I don't think it was personal to Logan. I just think it was the right decision for Rory regardless of who her boyfriend was.
Everything about this is awesome! The show is about two independent women. Sure, Lorelai ended up with Luke (thank goodness!), but Rory didn't need to end up with Logan.
If anything, Logan's rude reaction to her proposal rejection proves that point. Czuchry also added,
Even at the wrap party, there were talks that the show was gonna come back, and that I would have come back to have been a part of that. But nothing was ever set in stone.
I totally wish the show did come back! He also confirmed something all GG fans were wondering: He will be at the Gilmore Girls reunion in June at the ATX Television Festival. Whoever is attending that event is extremely lucky, since the panel is already sold out.
Another thing we learned from Czuchry's AMA? When a Reddit user asked if he was Team Logan, Dean, or Jess, naturally he answered, "You gonna really make me choose? Absolutely team Logan. Because he pushed Rory to seek new adventures in her life."
In fact, Czuchry tries to carry some of Logan's impulsiveness into his own life, saying,
In terms of Logan's sense of adventure and grand gestures and spontaneity, those are elements that I try to take from him and apply to my own life.
There's nothing wrong with a little spontaneity and he's right, for the most part, Logan challenged Rory—in a good way. They may not have gotten married, but while they were together, they were a great match.
