9 Shaving Hacks To Get The Perfect Shave
I’ll be the first to admit that I can get pretty lazy about shaving, sometimes to the point where I’ll throw on a light cardigan over my tank just so I don’t have to do it for one more day. If you're anything like me, then it's time you learn a few shaving hacks. These simple tips are absolutely life-changing, and will totally transform your shaving routine, making it less of a stress come summer, when you'd rather spend your time laying out in the sun.
Our jeans and long-sleeved shirts can no longer hide the hairy truth. So if you’re constantly in a crunch and can’t really find the time to shave, there are some quick hacks that you can do in order to get a clean, smooth shave, all while avoiding razor burns and irritated skin. Because the only thing worse than trying to shave in a short amount of time is coming out of the shower with bloody legs and bumpy, irritated pits, right?
Here are nine quick and easy shaving hacks that'll come in handy in the summer.
1. Use Your Conditioner
Your conditioner isn’t made to only soften the hair on your head. In fact, it works better to soften the hair and prep your skin for shaving than bar soap or body wash does. Bar soap can often clog up your razor, so if you find yourself throwing out your shaving tools after a couple of uses, switching to conditioner can be an eco-friendly and cost-effective way to lengthen the life of your razors.
2. Exfoliate First
While you’re exfoliating your face with that sugar scrub of yours, why not show some sugar (pun intended) to your legs, too? The sugar can also act as a shaving cream, allowing you to shave it before you wash it off. What's more, you’ll end up with super smooth legs instead of the bumpy, irritated ones you might be used to.
3. Don’t Leave Your Razor In The Shower
Shaving in the shower is completely fine. In fact, if you like taking hot showers, the heat will soften up your hair follicles, which makes them easier to shave. But after you’re done, be sure to dry it off, because water actually dulls your razors. You should be getting around five to ten shaves per razor. If you’re constantly dulling them with water, that might be the reason why you’re ending up with cuts and getting fewer than five uses out of each razor.
4. Moisturize
Save your favorite scented deodorant for later, because right after you shave, applying unscented lotion will soften up those rough cuts.
5. Use Your Boo Thang’s Razor
When it comes to shaving your bikini area, using a men’s razor is a lot better, because they’re made for coarse hair.
6. Lip Balm Can Heal Your Cuts
If you hop out of the shower and can see all the spots where you cut yourself, you can immediately stop the bleeding by applying lip balm. Excuse me while I go get a value pack of my favorite Burt’s Bees.
7. Apply Shaving Cream With A Badger Brush
At barber shops, men usually get their clean cuts by applying their shaving gel with a badger brush. As it turns out, it can also work for putting cream on your legs. Consider using a badger brush to apply hair removal lotion like Nair.
8. Stunt Your Hair’s Growth
Using soy products has been known to stunt hair growth, so if you want to keep shaving to a minimum, try out some soy-based lotions.
9. Keep Your Shaving Strokes Short And Sweet
When you’re shaving your legs, go for shorter strokes, and don’t press down too hard. Keeping it short and sweet speeds up the shaving process in the long run, because shorter strokes give you a cleaner shave. Say goodbye to those ugh moments when you get out of the shower and find a random patch of hair that you missed.
