Listen To A Clip Of Maroon 5's New Single
Get hyped, pop music fans: Maroon 5's new single, "This Summer's Gonna Hurt," premieres on Friday, May 15. "Wait, Maroon 5 are releasing a new single already?" you're probably thinking. "Didn't their last album come out, like, less than a year ago?" You're absolutely correct: the group's latest album, V, was just released in September 2014, but they're already moving on to something else. Well... kind of. According to Billboard editor Gary Trust, "This Summer's Gonna Hurt" will actually be "added on" to V's track list. Interesting.
Of course, these days, it's not unusual for pop acts to reissue albums with additional material in order to generate renewed interest and increase sales, but it's a little strange for Maroon 5 to be doing it so soon — especially when there are still songs left on the original version of V that have loads of "single potential" ("Unkiss Me," "It Was Always You," "My Heart Is Open," etc.). That being said, I can't deny my excitement. After all, it wouldn't truly feel like summer without a new Maroon 5 single heating up the airwaves. Will "This Summer's Gonna Hurt" become the pop-rockers' next No. 1 hit? I'm anxious to find out.
Here's everything we know about Maroon 5's "This Summer's Gonna Hurt" so far:
It Could Have An Alternate Title
Maroon 5's tweet from Tuesday might indicate that the explicit version of the song is called, "This Summer's Gonna Hurt Like a Motherf@#$er." I see.
Its Music Video May Have Already Been Shot
Recently, band member PJ Morton posted a couple of mysterious pictures on Instagram of a large stage set up in what appears to be the desert. Was it used for the "This Summer's Gonna Hurt" music video? It's possible.
It Was Produced By A Big Name In Pop
In the past, Swedish musician Shellback has created hit tracks for major artists like Britney Spears, Usher, Pink, Kesha, and more. Recently, he co-produced a number of tunes for Taylor Swift's 1989 LP ("Shake It Off," "Blank Space," "Style," "Bad Blood," etc.) Ooh, la la!
It Sounds Promising
Obviously, you can't tell much from a 19-second clip, but "This Summer's Gonna Hurt" sounds like it has some promise (though its lyrics make me a BIT nervous). I'll reserve judgment until I've heard the whole thing.
That's it! Don't forget: "This Summer's Gonna Hurt" will be available on iTunes on Friday, May 15.
