Move over, Brit Brit and Mimi! Jennifer Lopez is getting her own Las Vegas residency. J. Lo is the latest diva to hit Sin City for an extended stay, stepping into the Britney Spears' and Mariah Carey's Louboutins. La Lopez will rock Planet Hollywood beginning in January 2016.
This begs a critical question: WWJLW? What will J. Lo wear during her Las Vegas residency?
She is a fashion diva as much as she is a full-service, multi-hyphenate diva, so there is no way she won't put a lot of thought into all the outfits she wears while commandeering Sin City.
It feels like Lopez is more of a pop star than an actress these days, with her films feeling more occasional than frequent. And with American Idol ending, she can truly focus on entertaining on the stage. And she has to look gooooood doing it, because duh.
Yes, I want her to craft brand new looks for her stage show, things we have never seen before. But I'd love it if she would dip into her archive and repurpose or modernize some of her looks, including one iconic Versace dress!
These are the 13 J. Lo stage ensembles that I have loved over the years that I wouldn't mind seeing her resurrect.
1. Feathers
These dramatic feathers pretty much beg for a reprise amid the glitz and glam of Las Vegas. How about a full feather coat, complete with a hood, boxer style?
2. All Leather
This outfit, complete with over-the-knee boots, reminds me of Beyonce's Super Bowl ensemble. It's tough and sexy, so some variation of this would work in Sin City.
3. The Sparkly Nude Catsuit
Any diva worth her salt rocks a nude, sparkly catsuit-type outfit. J. Lo has done it so she needs to revisit the shape and style. I love this one because of the starburst effect but I want to see her go bigger and better when residency'ing.
4. An Overcoat
A long, flowing overcoat is a great convention, simply because it's meant to be ripped off and reveal something sexier and flesh-flashing underneath. She'll need to incorporate one into this scenario as well.
5. Crop It
A crop top is an essential, since she is doing all that singing and dancing. Plus, she has abs to show off.
6. Jenny From The Block
J. Lo joined Taylor Swift onstage in L.A. during one of Tay's shows and she rocked the Jenny From the Block urban street style, complete with sneaks and a cap. Lopez can't be all mega glam for the entire set. She has to revisit the Bronx in some capacity, like so! J. Lo never forgets where she came from.
7. Fringed + Flirty
A flirty dress with fringe and sparkle, so the people at the back of the venue can see her, is a must. Vegas is flashy and its performers need to be the same.
8. '70s Disco Chic
This voluminous dress was so '70s and disco-inspired, but it somehow didn't overwhelm Lopez's frame, so she could do this look again for the part of the show where she's bantering and singing more than dancing.
9. Architectural Gladiator
J. Lo is fierce, so an architectural gladiator look, complete with strappy sandals, would certainly fit the show, no matter what overall theme she is putting forth.
10. Mini Catsuit
There has to be more than one catsuit, and a short, jewel-toned ensemble like this is very Beyonce and very necessary. The spotted tights? Those are a total revisit.
11. Bell Bottoms
Bell bottoms never really go out of style and this outfit looks easy to dance in, so J. Lo should totally incorporate it into her Vegas show while shaking dem hips. It's almost casual cowgirl-ish.
12. Gloves + Boots
Accessories are important and a contrasted look like this, of black boots and over-the-elbow gloves with a sparkly mini, just works. But check out the thinness of that heel. She'll have to be maaajorly careful so she doesn't break her ankle.
13. That Green Versace Dress...
J. Lo riffed on her own green Versace dress — you know, the one that made her famous thanks to the miracle of two-sided tape. That look is so iconic she must, must bring it back.
There you have it. These 13 J. Lo stage looks can be exhumed and tweaked for 2016.
