In case Dakota Johnson and Jamie Dornan need understudies for Fifty Shades Darker, Val Chmerkovskiy and Rumer Willis are available. On Monday's Dancing With the Stars semifinal, Rumer Willis and Val Chmerkovskiy performed a Fifty Shades of Grey -themed dance. Decked out in a fancy suit, Chmerkovskiy was an excellent Christian Grey, and Rumer Willis was a much better Anastasia Steele. (There was no lip biting which was a huge plus.) The sensual dance was set to "Earned It" by The Weeknd from the movie's soundtrack, and the number went over big with the judges.
"You were a perfect Anastasia," Julianne Hough told Willis after the dance. All the judges were pleased with her acting ability, praising her ability to tell the story. She brought a depth to the character, and really sold the performance to the audience. The dance was definitely played to the romantic side of the Fifty Shades of Grey—no kinky roleplaying here. It was more emblematic of the scene in the film where Christian and Ana dance—one of the more tender moments in their at-times problematic relationship.
No surprises here, the dance was as warmly received at the film was opening weekend. The judges scored it a 38 out of 40, keeping Willis and Chmerkovskiy firmly in the frontrunner position. If they keep this up, they're going to take that mirrorball trophy home in just one week.
