Anna Kendrick's the Latest Star to go 'Into the Woods'
What do you get when you pair Meryl Streep, Jake Gyllenhaal, Johnny Depp, and Anna Kendrick together? Apparently, Into the Woods, Rob Marshall's (Chicago) 2014 Disney film adaptation of the Broadway musical. According to The Hollywood Reporter, Kendrick is the latest star to (probably) join the production, in which she would take on the role of Cinderella.
As Cinderella, Kendrick would undoubtedly get to show off the singing chops that audiences first heard in last year's Pitch Perfect. She's a Broadway vet, having begun her acting career at the age of 12 in the musical High Society. As Dinah, Kendrick earned the title of the third youngest Tony nominee ever.
We're excited to see Kendrick join the already amazing cast, and, hopefully, Into the Woods won't disappoint. Set for a December 2014 release, the film looks like it's shooting for Oscar, and with this cast on board, we wouldn't be surprised if it succeeds.
Into the Woods is a mashup of well-known fairy tales, combining the stories of Cinderella, Rapunzel, Little Red Riding Hood, and more. It premiered on Broadway in 1987, and has been revived several times.
Currently, the film version has Streep, Depp, Gyllenhaal, Chris Pine, James Corden, Emily Blunt, Tracey Ullman, and Christine Baranski attached as various fairy tale characters.
