Hiddleston & Swinton Get Gothy In New Trailer
If you're paying attention to movies right now your life is probably full to the brim with movies that the lucky bastards who attended the Toronto International Film Festival saw first. 12 Years a Slave, August: Osage County, The Fifth Estate — although apparently no one went to see that last one. And now you can add another to the list: Only Lovers Left Alive has its first trailer, and it stars Tom Hiddleston and Tilda Swinton as a couple of long-married vampires.
Here's how Buzzfeed's Jordan Zakarin described the film in this great interview with Hiddleston and Jarmush a few months back:
The film, which screened at the Toronto International Film Festival, is a pitch black comedy that centers on Hiddleston’s Adam — a dark, tortured, and morosely funny blend of Lord Byron and early British goth rockers — and Tilda Swinton’s Eve, a brilliant and sunny vampire who is his devoted, long-distance lover. Twilight, it is not; they drink real human blood and find their angst in the centuries of human potential they’ve seen wasted.
Tom Hiddleston and Tilda Swinton are both long and lanky and Shakespearean and very possibly aliens, so director Jim Jarmush's idea to cast them as gothy romantic vampires running around Detroit was pretty damn brilliant. Mia Wasikowska and Anton Yelchin round out the vampire-y cast as some grungy bandmates, and John Hurt is also there as what appears to be another vampire pal.
Immortality and love are also apparently not the only things our vampiric lovahs have to deal with; there also appears to be a lot of blood (comes with the territory I suppose) and some murder.
