Take A Peek At RBG's Amazing Collection Of Jabots
Of all the words that come to mind when we think of our favorite Supreme Court Justice, "accessory hoarder" certainly isn't one. However, it turns out that Ruth Bader Ginsburg collects jabots (aka fancy collars) from around the world. Ginsburg is known for her fiery opinion in the courtroom, and she has the extensive accessory collection to match. The Justice personalizes the traditional black robes with the collars to not only represent her personality, but to represent the day's cases themselves.
In a 2014 interview with Yahoo News, Ginsburg told Katie Couric that she owns collars for different types of court cases. Ginsburg has been fighting for gender equality for a majority of her career. Seeing her add to her femininity in the courtroom is a great reminder of just how powerful women can be.
In 1993, Ginsburg was the second woman EVER to win a seat as a Supreme Court Justice. Ginsburg has fought hard to prove that politics isn't just a man's world, and has done it all wearing impressive jabots. Recently, Ginsburg was featured on the cover of Time Magazine's 100 Most Influential People issue wearing on of her favorite jabots. In the Yahoo News interview, Ginsburg mentions that the white woven collar is from Cape Town, South Africa. With jabots from all over the world, it'll be interesting to see which one Ginsburg chooses for her upcoming cases. Here, all the jabots we've spotted on her so far.
1. White and Woven
The beautiful white, woven collar (featured on the right) hails from Cape Town, South Africa. Ginsburg mentions that this is her favorite and most worn jabot.
2. Dissenting Jabot
This black and gold jeweled collar is what Ginsburg wears for her dissents. This regal jabot is perfect for when Ginsburg needs to stand her ground against the majority opinion.
3. Majority Opinion Jabot
This bold jabot is Ginsburg's favorite to wear when she is reading the majority opinion. With all eyes on her, this collar is perfect for grabbing attention. The collar was given to Ginsburg by her law clerks.
4. Pastoral Collar
A replica of the collar worn by Stiffelio in the similar titled opera, Ginsburg purchased this collar from the Metropolitan Opera's gift shop.
5. Frilly Lace
This jabot is a delicate lace collar featuring beautiful hand-work around the hem of the piece.
6. Blue Beading
Blue and gold beads adorn this artistic, statement jabot. Definitely a fashion risk in the courtroom.
7. Bows & Lace
The white bows and lace embellishing this jabot adds femininity and grace to an old school look.
8. More White Lace
