13 Of DVF's Best Looks Throughout The Years

by Allie Fasanella

"Confidence. If you have it, you can make anything look good," are some well-spoken words by one of fashion's most iconic women who, in fact, always looks good. Diane von Furstenberg's style is unmatched — I could peruse pictures of her for hours. And there is no quote by her that my eyes wouldn't want to land on. She's someone you can tell just knows more than you ever will, but she loves to share her wisdom to anyone who dares to listen.

The way I see it, DVF is everybody’s favorite grandmother. Most of us have two, and she is the one who we secretly like more because she's even cooler than we are. She knows that she's the "World's Greatest Grandma," but she wouldn't be caught dead wearing a sweatshirt that said so. She is a woman who knows how to live and this is evident in everything she wears.

DVF dresses some of the most fabulous women in the world; everyone from Gigi Hadid at the Met Ball to Princess Kate Middleton in Australia. Seriously, she dresses the whole world in her impeccable designs. But right now, right here, I am looking at the sartorial goddess herself. From shift dresses to gowns, she never goes wrong. DVF doesn't just dress well for "someone her age," she dresses incredibly for a human of any age. Her style is timeless and unique, really. Take a look to see what I'm talking about:

1. Printed Tunic

Diane works the runway better than any model (she can't help it) in a beautifully printed design at her show this past fall in New York. She's simply glowing, don't you think?

2. Funky Pattern

The gorgeous designer stuns at her show for Tokyo Fashion Week in some killer pumps and a super-cool shift dress.

3. Black And White

Diane von Furstenberg and husband Barry Diller, who wed in 2001 after a long off and on relationship, make an exceptionally dapper couple. She looks classic in this black gown accompanied by a gorgeous suntan to boot.

4. Black And Blue

DVF is definitely a fan of the shift silhouette, and for good reason. She rocked this gorgeous color at the Harper's Bazaar Women of the Year Awards where she was awarded the Fashion Icon award. Seems about right.

5. Blue Sequins

She looks classy as ever in an amazing royal blue gown paired with a statement necklace and the no-fail Louboutin for this year's Vanity Fair Oscar party.

6. Her Heart On Her Hip

"Love is life." What a beautiful sentiment. Why not write it on a dress? Add some lovely hearts and you have possibly the most perfect gown ever made. An ideal dress for attending the Life Ball in Vienna Austria, which raises funds for HIV and AIDS.

7. Silver Shimmer

Diane came to play at the annual Vanity Fair Oscar party back in 2013. This gown isn't messing around. I mean, look at that fur trim.

8. Jumpsuit

Finally, we're catching her in some pants at the Museum of Modern Art's 4th Annual Film benefit "A Tribute to Pedro Almodovar" back in 2011. It's not a common occasion, but this jumpsuit looks perfect, especially paired with a black fur vest. Hell to the yes.

9. Yellow Lady

I really want a Diane von Furstenberg puzzle. There must be a puzzle of the famous portrait by Andy Warhol out there. She looks positively fab in this statement gown at another Vanity Fair bash.

10. Florals

Diane wore this funky floral print gown a few days ago for the Met Gala, which was definitely in keeping with the "China: Through The Looking Glass" theme. This dress is also fitting because, little fun fact: Did you know she's a nature lover? One of her favorite things is going on hikes.

11. Feathers

DVF sports some sassy feathers here looking like she could be partying with Lady Rose from Downton Abbey from this past season. This is just another instance where she proves that age does not determine your sexiness.

12. Red, White, & Blue

Diane dons the British flag for the Met Ball theme, "AngloMania: Tradition and Transgression in British Fashion" back in 2006.

13. Fur Coat

The queen looks incredible in this gold dress with a fur coat overtop.
