Katie Holmes' Met Gala Instagram Is Gorgeous

Okay, so if there was one person in the Holmes family we'd want to see on the Met Gala red carpet, it's Suri Cruise. But, if the 9-year-old couldn't show up at the ritzy event, we'll settle for her comments about the fashion in her Burn Book. Or, rather, we'd settle for pictures of her mom, Katie Holmes, at the Met Gala. And, guess what? Mom did not disappoint. At all.

We already knew we were in for something dramatic when DJ Quintero snapped an Instagram of Holmes pre-haircut. "Chop Chop! ... BIG transformation," Quintero's caption read. And it was indeed a transformation. Based on the Instagram video Holmes uploaded to the social media platform, the actress has reverted back to her 2007 crop, which we all became familiar with at the time thanks to paparazzi shots of her, Cruise, and their infant daughter.

But though it's somewhat sad to remember those, ahem, happier(?) times, any fan of fashion would have to be thrilled with Holmes' new tresses. Especially during Met Gala night. What better way to show off a fabulous dress than with a fabulous new haircut that allows the gown to take center stage? Just look at the cinematic way Holmes rocks her dress, alongside designer and date Zac Posen:

Of course, it's just a sneak peek. Within hours, we'll get an updated look at Posen's gown on Holmes, which is shining brighter than Holmes post-Cruise life thanks to the warm, New York sunshine Monday. But the video is a fairy tale-esque vision that seems to be more primed for a happily ever after in the best-dressed fashion round-ups than Holmes memorable Beauty and the Beast-like gown in 2014.

This year, the look is truly a beauty.
