The Craziest Hats Of The 2015 Kentucky Derby
Even if you don't know anything about horse racing, you're probably aware the that the Kentucky Derby is known for crazy hats. It's pretty much the one day each year that Americans rival British royalty (including a new princess) with their wacky headgear. Some people really go all out, decorating their toppers with plumes of feathers, floral sculptures, horse-themed imagery, the works.
While the best hats of the 2015 Kentucky Derby might be some of the tamer ones, I believe that the wildest concoctions deserve some recognition of their own. After all, it takes some serious chutzpah to wear, say, a hat with an owl in the forest tableau a la Carol McDermott in 2014. Not everyone is brave enough to set aside the rules of style and go all out with their accessorizing, but those who do should be praised.
Although the 141st Kentucky Derby has only just begun, the crazy hat parade is already in full-swing. From flamingo-topped sun hats to horseshoe-adorned fedoras, oodles and oodles of insanely fabulous hats are making their way into the stands of Churchill Downs. These hats will definitely cause a distraction to derby-goers, and perhaps even the race horses themselves. Yes, that's how crazy these hats are.
