11 Of The Most Therapeutically Emo FOB Lyrics
Whether or not you identified as being “emo” during your tween and teen years, we all did our fair share of partaking in the “emo” way of life from time to time. For instance, when we would craft not-so-subtle Facebook statuses, AIM away messages, and if you want to get real archaic, AOL profiles that screamed for attention. The thing is, most often these cries for help would be lyrical. And, more often than that, they’d specifically be Fall Out Boy lyrics. The reasoning? Well, it’s simple. Those mop haired boys know how to get to the very heart of an infatuated, hormonal teen.
In a lot of ways, quoting these Fall Out Boy song lyrics were therapeutic. They helped us teens, rife with emotion, to say the things we wanted to say without actually having to say them. Although, in hindsight, it’s embarrassingly clear how obvious we all were. Yeah, your tenth grade crush knew exactly how you felt about him. Yikes.
In honor of Fall Out Boy and their honorary degrees in Psychology, let us look back at some of the most intensely therapeutic lyrics from their album, From Under The Cork Tree, in honor of its 10 year anniversary.
"Of All The Gin Joints In The World"
"We're making out inside crashed cars/We're sleeping through all our memories/I used to waste my time dreaming of being alive (now I only waste it dreaming of you)"
Gosh, being 17 was SO. HARD.
"Dance, Dance"
"Dance this is the way they'd love/If they knew how misery loved me"
Dance like no one is watching? Dance like your ex-boyfriend and your ex-best friend who are now TOGETHER at Homecoming are watching. That's how you dance, darn it.
"Sugar, We're Going Down"
"Lie in the grass, next to the mausoleum/I'm just a notch in your bedpost/But you're just a line in a song"
Because I am not certain if I can think of anything more emotional than literally laying in cemetery, thinking about your estranged lover.
"Nobody Puts Baby In The Corner"
"Drink down that Gin and Kerosene/And come spit on bridges with me/Just to keep us warm/Light a match to leave me be"
Honorable mention:
"So wear me like a locket around your throat/I'll weigh you down/I'll watch you choke/You look so good in blue"
They're both just so, so, so, so dramatic it hurts. It hurts so good.
"I've Got A Dark Alley And A Bad Idea That Says You Should Shut Your Mouth (Summer Song)"
"And my back has been breaking from this heavy heart/We never seemed so far/I'm hopelessly hopeful, that you're just hopeless enough"
FINALLY, someone gets how hard it is to lug this love muscle around.
"7 Minutes In Heaven (Atavan Halen)"
"The only thing worse than not knowing/Is you thinking that I don't know/I'm having another episode/I just need a stronger dose"
Yes, please, someone administer me another dose of this numbness. I can't handle this teen love it is far too strong for this frail girl.
"Sophomore Slump or Comeback of the Year"
"Take our tears and put them on ice/Cause I swear I'd burn this city down to show you the light"
Whoa, whoa. Burning down cities at first glance may seem a little drastic, but not until you know the undying ninth grade love we had for each other. See? Now you get it. Totes justified.
"Champagne For My Real Friends, Real Pain For My Sham Friends"
"Strike us like matches, cause everyone deserves the flames/We only do it for the scars and stories, not the fame"
So much talk of fire. But still, not enough.
"I Slept With Someone In Fall Out Boy And All I Got Was This Stupid Song Written About Me"
"I'm the first kid to write of hearts, lies, and friends/And I am sorry my conscience called in sick again"
*Flipping my hair with reckless abandon*
"Get Busy Living Or Get Busy Dying (Do Your Part To Save The Scene And Stop Going To Shows)"
"If you are the shores, I am the waves begging for big moons/I’m mailing letters to addresses in a ghost town"
Yo, this is deep... Like the "waves" of my love for you. *Ba-dum-ch!*
"XO"
"To the love I left my conscience pressed/Through the keyhole I watched you dress/Kiss and tell/(Loose lips sink ships)"
