I'll be honest — I'm more excited about the launch of Starbucks cookie straws than I am about the S'mores Frappuccino. And after hearing about them yesterday, numerous questions promptly popped into my coffee and food-obsessed head: How long will Starbucks cookie straws be available? Are they only available during the three-day, free-with-purchase deal that's currently going on? Are they a permanent menu addition? Are they something somewhere in between those two extremes? What's the deal, cookie straws? Tell me your secrets!
Or, y'know, don't, because you're a cookie and therefore unable to talk. That's OK, though — we reached out to Starbucks to find out exactly how long the cookie straws will be around for, and happily, my curiosity has been pretty well satisfied. Here's everything we know:
As we discovered yesterday, the cookie straws will be available for free whenever you buy a Frappuccino — any Frappuccino at all — right now through April 30. Since yesterday was the first day of the promo, that means you've only got two more days left to snag one at no extra cost. And after that? Well, they won't be a free add-on anymore, but you'll still be able to get them for a good long while: A Starbucks spokesperson told Bustle via email that the cookie straws will be available for purchase for 95 cents through the end of September. That's roughly the same time frame we have during which we'll be able to experience the S'mores Frappuccino, so hey. Go nuts. Get 'em both. YOLO, right? Or… something?
...Never mind.
It's worth noting, though, that there are two very important stipulations regarding the cookie straws, both during the freebie promo and the months to follow: They'll only be putting in an appearance at participating Starbucks locations in the U.S. and Canada, and there's a big ol' “or while supplies last” tacked onto the end of every date given for them. That means that not every Starbucks in the U.S. an Canada will have them — and furthermore, if you're not in the U.S. or Canada, you're totally out of luck. Additionally, just because the freebie promo is scheduled to run through April 30 and the straws are supposed to be available through September, that doesn't necessarily mean they actually will be. Who knows? Our cookie straw fervor could be so great that we buy out every single Starbucks cookie straw in existence in just a few days. I mean, I realize that scenario is unlikely… but it's not totally outside the realm of possibility. Just sayin'.
In case you need a reminder, the cookie straws themselves are officially described as “rolled sweet wafer biscuits lined with rich chocolate ganache”; I've been unable to acquire one myself due to the dearth of Starbucks locations near my tiny suburban town, but I've got a few ideas about how I think they'll probably taste. Anyone care to enlighten me about how accurate my ideas are?
