The twists and turns on Season 1 of The Flash have overall been nothing but fun — which is a relief compared to the multitude of angsty superhero shows on the air. However, I'm starting to worry that Caitlin Snow will become a villain on The Flash. As the team continues their investigation of Harrison Wells, also known as Eobard Thawne and the Reverse-Flash, Caitlin Snow could lean away from her new friends and towards her old boss who supported her when her life came crumbling down.
Last Tuesday's episode ended with Caitlin, Barry and Cisco discovering Harrison Wells' braille lair where he keeps the yellow suit. Not only that, but Wells left his newspaper from the future open on the tablet screen. Shouldn't Gideon have password-protected that? Anyway, this should be enough evidence to keep Caitlin on the good side, right?
It's no secret that Caitlin Snow's character in the comics becomes the super villain known as Killer Frost. She's permanently snowy, can generate and project ice spikes as weapons, and has a constant desire for warmth that only Firestorm can truly satiate. Romantic, right? On the CW series, Caitlin is not a metahuman unless her powers are latent — which has not been the case with most of the gifted individuals that the show has featured.
Could Caitlin Snow turn to the dark side before the first season of The Flash is out? I don't want it to happen either, but it's not that far-fetched and it would make an amazing twist.
History Matters
Caitlin Snow is, of course, extraordinarily intelligent, loyal to Barry Allen and an overall good, kind person. On the other hand, she has been stressing over the last couple of episodes how much Harrison Wells and S.T.A.R. Labs means to her. The facility was like family after the explosion alienated her from her former friends, potential colleagues, and fiancée. She's had a difficult time coming over to Barry Allen's side when he expressed concerns about Doctor Wells after all that she's been through over the last couple of years. I'm not positive that Wells won't be able to persuade her (or worse, blackmail her) over to his side.
An "Alternative"
What if Barry changes the past, and this time Caitlin Snow becomes a metahuman and a villainess? I know, that sounds like a very Once Upon A Time-esque cliffhanger, but it's possible now that time travel has entered the series. The "Endgame" trailer for the final four episodes shows the particle accelerator being activated in what I assume must be a flashback of some kind. If Caitlin was put through that situation again with even the tiniest inkling of what was about to go down, she would probably make an attempt to save Ronnie which would put her closer to danger. This change in the timeline would create a whole host of new metahumans and conflicts for The Flash.
