Kim Richards Checks into Rehab Facility
Real Housewives of Beverly Hills star Kim Richards and her personal struggles with addiction have been thrown in the public even more these past two weeks, but it seems like the reality star is ready to make a positive change. Kim Richards has reportedly checked into rehab in the weeks following her arrest for public intoxication at the Beverly Hills Hotel. Multiple sources to media outlets claim that "Kim went to rehab finally because she got arrested, she humiliated her kids and she wants to avoid jail."
This news comes a few days before Richards' anticipated Dr. Phil interview will air on April 28, in which she opened up about the night of her arrest and all of the emotions that led up to that moment. In the first exclusive look into the interview, it is clear that Richards was still not emotionally prepared to deal with the consequences of her arrest and is shown walking out of the interview for fear that is was "an intervention." Could Richards' attitude toward recovery change so quickly?
In addition to the report that she entered rehab, the unnamed source told People , "If the arrest hadn't happened she wouldn't be going to rehab; it would be business as usual. She's in denial that she has a problem." This detail could be a bit harrowing for friends and family of Richards who might question her motives, but make no mistake, making the voluntarily decision to enter rehab is a positive move and will undoubtedly make some impact on her road to sobriety.
This is not the first time Kim Richards has sought help for her issues. Back in 2011, Kim's sister and co-star, Kyle Richards, shared with Ryan Seacrest that Kim was at an undisclosed treatment facility for her substance abuse. It has been nearly four years later, but as is the case with substance abuse, the road to recovery is long and full of twist and turns.
Although she has fallen off the wagon once more, I applaud Kim Richards in taking a step to confront her issues and hopefully coming to terms with these private struggles that have been thrown in the public eye. It won't be easy, but the first steps will be the hardest and she's got loads of support on her way.
