Taco Bell Has Something New Up Its Sleeve

by Lucia Peters

So hey, remember how yesterday, I said that while Wendy's Jalapeno Fresco Spicy Chicken Sandwich was good, it wasn't really all that spicy? Well, another challenger has just added its hat to the ring in the fight for the title of Spiciest Fast Food Option Ever: Taco Bell “Diablo” hot sauce is coming, and it looks like it means business. It's set to arrive on May 5 — because when else are you going to debut a new hot sauce variety but on Cinco de Mayo? — and you guys? I have high hopes for it. I'm ready for a fast food option that really dials it up to 11.

Foodbeast described their initial introduction to the sauce's existence as follows:

Earlier, we received a mysterious package in the mail. Upon opening it, we discovered a sleek black single packet of hot sauce. It was called Diablo.

Thanks, Taco Bell.

I don't know about you, but the idea of an entire box arriving in the mail with nothing but one tiny pack of hot sauce inside makes me giggle. Maybe that's just me, though.

Anyhoo, AdWeek confirmed that the new sauce will drop on Cinco de Mayo; it will only be available for a limited time, but it sounds like it might be worth hunting down for the spice lovers in the crowd. Said Taco Bell spokeswoman Ashley Sioson to AdWeek, “We're all familiar with Verde, Mild, Hot, and Firehttp: , but if there's one thing we keep hearing from our fans, it's that they want more heat. Diablo will deliver just that — [it] packs a punch with a 'we don't give a shishito' attitude.”

Very punny, Taco Bell.

The sauce apparently includes aji panca, chipotle, and chili peppers, among others — and it will come with 12 brand new “wisdom” labels, the pithy little sayings emblazoned on each packet of Taco Bell hot sauce. The chain tweeted a GIF highlighting the labels, so for the curious, here's what they'll look like:

My favorite one is “That escalated quickly.” There's a Ron Burgundy quote for every occasion.

So, watch out for Taco Bell's Diablo sauce on May 5. Your taste buds will either thank you or curse you for it — the jury's still out on which.
